Sharing the benefits of breastfeeding to help you decide to go through that journey with your precious little one...

Breastfeeding Journey

During my first pregnancy I was wondering if I can really provide breast milk for my baby considering I’ve got small breast and for how long can I provide…
When my first baby was born I really felt nothing with my breast and I’m thinking how will I know if there’s milk inside? On the next morning our baby was brought in our room and the nurse said I can now start breastfeeding. I followed and started offering my breast and as he started to suck, it really hurts! Because that time I really have no idea of proper latching. After a couple of feedings my breasts swell and that’s when I felt I’m producing more milk.
So what encourage me to breastfeed despite of the swelling, engorgement, sore and crack nipples I’ve experienced. As to what I’ve read from books, research and heard from other mothers, breastfeeding is really the best option to provide our babies the antibodies they needed to combat diseases. It lowers the risk of your baby having respiratory illnesses, diabetes, diarrhea and even some cancers. Breastfeeding also is the best way to bond with your precious little one. It really feels great having eye contact with my baby during feedings and most of the time he smiles at me and it’s like his way of saying thank you mommy. You can also save time and money since you don’t need to buy milk formula and no need for bottle cleaning and formula preparations.
Breastfeeding does not only benefit our babies but also us mothers. As our bodies produce milk we are burning calories that can help us lose pregnancy weight faster and helps our uterus return to its original size. Breastfeeding also helps protect breast health because it can lower breast cancer risk especially if you breastfeed for more than a year.
Since I’m a stay at home mother, my breastfeeding journey with my first child lasted for 2 years and now I started again the journey with our second child last December 2014. So, have you decided to breastfeed?

Breast milk is the best milk for babies - we all owe a great sense of gratitude to mothers who gave such selfless love and nurtured us all along - siva
