Whose Glory is it If a Woman Covers Her Hair in Church?

Some Churches over emphasize on a part or portion of the Bible, neglecting or not focusing on the other parts in the appropriate measure they ought to. In fact, others misconstrue the practical or contextual meanings of some portions of the Bible. There are several illustrations in this situation, but we can discuss just one of them, which is the issue of covering of hair by the women.

Does it matter?

Some Churches over emphasize on a part or portion of the Bible, neglecting or not focusing on the other parts in the appropriate measure they ought to. In fact, others misconstrue the practical or contextual meanings of some portions of the Bible. There are several illustrations in this situation, but we can discuss just one of them, which is the issue of covering of hair by the women.

One argument still experienced by some of our Churches (especially the Orthodox ones) is the issue of a lady wearing scarf or covering her hair. This is a very irrelevant because the answer to this problem is also written in the same portion of the Bible they use as the reference point to this argument. Now what does the Bible say?

"For a man indeed ought to not cover his head, since he is the Image and glory of God; but a woman is the glory of the Man. For Man is not from woman, but woman from Man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels" 1st Corinthians 11:7-10.

Some churches use these verses to condemn women who do not cover their head (hair) in the church. Well, based on the verses above, it is true. But that is not all, what did verses 11-16 say? Nevertheless, neither is Man independent of woman, nor woman independent of Man, in the Lord. For as a woman come from man, even so man also comes through woman, but all things are from God. Judge among yourselves, is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering. But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such customs, nor do the churches of God" Other versions quote verse 16 as "This is how things are done in all of God's churches and that's why none of you, should argue about what I have said".

So, this is very clear. It is very good and absolutely decent for a woman to tie a scarf or cover her hair in the presence of God. But so far as she has a long hair, let her be if she is not covering it, because it is a glory unto her and you shouldn't argue what God has said through Apostle Paul..
Finally, Paul was teaching based on the culture of the then Jews, because as of then, it is a dishonour to man to have long hair. What about our present age? Don't men leave their hairs? Don't men have long hairs? They do, should they now tie scarf and go to church? The most important thing in church is our soul and heart of worship. It may be shameful for a woman in those days to shave her hair completely, but if a woman can do it these days, she can then go to church without a scarf~~~ No big deal. Our focus should be on the worship and our hearts and not tying of scarf and as much as decency in dressing should be emphasized, tying of scarf should never be an issue in the church.
