If you give to get noticed, you have your reward. But, what if you do something anonymously?

Who 'Dun' It?

Jesus said that we should take care that we do not give alms before men to be seen of them. In today’s language, he is saying that when we give to the poor or needy or when we pay our tithes and offerings to the church, it should be just between us and God. Jesus went on to say if you give to be noticed, you will get no reward in heaven. Life is not about who can be the biggest philanthropist.

My ex-brother in law once received an anonymous money order in the mail to help with a financial need he had. He wondered who sent it and would like to have thanked the person. They evidently knew something of his situation and God moved upon their heart to be a part of the solution. However, he never knew who sent the money order. But, think for a moment of the reward such a selfless person will have in heaven.

We hear much from politicians about pay equity or redistribution of wealth. When the government seeks to pursue these goals it ends up in higher taxes. But, what if we as individuals decided to bless people by becoming a part of their solution? Suppose the next time you have excellent service at a restaurant you leave a tip that represents 40% of your check. If you can afford it, you will likely never miss the extra money. But, for the person struggling to pay the rent each month...an extra $10 can be a tremendous blessing.

Let me challenge you today to think of someone you know that has a financial need…and make it a point to be part of the solution to solving that person’s problem. Maybe you can drop a gift card or money order in the mail to help that person in a very neat way. Do it anonymously and let them wonder. In your anonymity, you will be blessed beyond measure.
