Noise can be very frustrating because you can’t control it and this can be a major cause of anxiety.
In a society where you live with others, this becomes an issue that needs addressing. How do you overcome noise anxiety?

Noisy Living

Extreme sensitivity to noise is referred to as noise anxiety and it is a condition that is difficult to treat since it’s out of the control of the one suffering from the condition as there is very little that one can do to stop the source of the noise.

I am very passionate about this topic because I work in an office that does not allow using of headphones or earplugs and being in an open plan office, I am daily exposed to loud music from a colleague computer that actually made me learn how to remote control his computer.

The odd side of this condition is that a particular noise is the one that triggers a response in the individual and can cause fear, anger, and panic or has been known in most cases to bring a lot of stress to the victim.

The sufferer may feel that the noise is made deliberately to hurt them and has caused a lot of confrontation between the perpetrator of the noise and the victim.

Living in an apartment building can be very challenging to the individual.

A survey done on noise anxiety in a focus group confirmed that most of the sufferers were affected by people conversing, gum popping, footsteps on the corridals, computer mouse clicking at work, someone brushing their teeth, slamming doors, gridding of teeth, traffic sounds, barking dogs, screaming children among others.

When someone with this condition is undergoing some difficulty in their life, noise anxiety becomes more pronounced and if it becomes unbearable it is good to seek the services of a therapist.

Talking to a friend and engaging in hobbies that make you happy can in a way make the condition more manageable.

I am introverted and enjoy spending time in quite places and thus I have adopted reading as a second nature and I have just now began to write and I love to cook.

Sound pollution is very harmful indeed. it is interesting to know that even low intensity sounds can make a person having noise anxiety uncomfortable. Thank you for this informative post.
