What do we Consider as Education

How does one rate education, is education just formal education, does street smarts and life events count?

My education

Once in the French class I was taking in 2005 the teacher wanted to know what level of education we all had. I think I wrote down 22 years of education.

You see I went to Royal Arthur School from grade one to grade seven.

I did my grade eight in Strathearn School. I have written several stories of my elementary school. We were disappointed when we graduated from elementary school that we could only get into the annex of the high school for grade 8 and not the high school itself which housed 2,000 students at the time.

University life

My grade nine to the end of grade 11 was done at Montreal High School. This completes high school in Quebec.

I went O’Sullivan Business College for one year.

I went to CEGEP which is a college in preparation for university for 3 years.

I went to Concordia University for a specialization in psychology for four years.
Then I did one year at McGill University for a diploma in Family Life Education.
I finished at McGill University with the two year program in counselling psychology. I got my masters there.

Beyond Unversity

Overall my university experience was an enjoyable one. If I could I would have stayed in school forever, but of course that just was not practical.

Well that was my formal education, but how do you calculate the in house training I received at various jobs and the exams I studied for while working? How do you calculate the common sense and street smarts I obtained throughout the years? What number do I place on raising a child, the research I do now for my articles, the experience I gained from being a wife, running a household, keeping the budget in tow, and the myriad of volunteer work that I have done in my life? I cannot put a number on these intangibles but they too were part of my education as well..
