Weddings don’t have to be costly to be special. Here are some tips to consider if you are on a tight budget.

Summer and Fall Weddings

Summer or fall is a beautiful time to have a wedding. Weddings are as unique as the individual participants themselves. It’s not a one-size-fits all scenario. If you are keeping your budget in mind these tips might be of assistance to you or to someone who you know that will soon be taking that step towards matrimony.

Make your own unique invitation that is specifically designed to your taste. With the exception of the couple getting married, most guests do not keep the invitation after the wedding day. Why spend a lot of money for something that is likely to end up in the trash can? You can find economical stationary at your local office and discount dollar-type stores.

Favors and Table Decorations

A simple silk floral arrangement on each table with the bridal colors intertwined with ribbon make for a nice setting. If you want to add a personal touch a digital picture of the couple could be tucked in a bud vase attached to some kind of pipe cleaner or craft stick based on the number of projected guests at the wedding and at each table.

Have the groomsmen dress in casual khakis or black pants and shoes. Their shirts could be solid in color to coordinate with the bridesmaids dresses and set off by a contrasting tie.

For the bridesmaids, maid and matron of honor make or purchase dresses that can be used long after the wedding is over. I’m talking street length. By wearing proper accessories such as jewelry, belts, bracelets and necklaces a touch of class can make even the simplest dress stand out elegantly.

Flower girl and ring bearer: Everyone knows that these two people often steal the show and add a sense of amusement to the event. In keeping with the wedding theme of the adult participants they too can wear something similar in appearance and color.

Groom – If the husband-to-be is not a tuxedo type of guy then he by all means can be dressed like his groomsmen.

Bride – She is the bell of the ball and as such will rightfully get the most attention. She may choose to dress in a floor length gown that accentuates her figure without a lot of glitz and glamor. Instead of a traditional veil she may choose a hat that compliments her features. Gloves would also add a touch of sophistication as she carries her bouquet of flowers.

Venue, Rehearsal Dinner and Reception

Venue – Whether having an indoor or outdoor wedding be sure to pick a place that has ample parking and comfortable seating for your guests.

Rehearsal Dinner – Have the participants bring their favorite dish and turn it into a potluck supper. You may prefer to have an old fashioned outdoor barbeque with hotdogs, hamburgers and potato salad on the side with a beverage of some sort. It is at this time that gifts may be given to wedding participants as a gesture of gratefulness for agreeing to be a part of your special day.

Reception – Make it easy on your budget by keeping it simple. Cupcakes are a cost-effective option along with mints, peanuts and some punch.

Photographer and Honeymoon

Photographer – This might be one of the more costly expenses. However, be sure to consult with several photographers to see which one you feel most comfortable with. Perhaps you will be able to receive a package deal that might include different picture poses as well as video of the complete ceremony. And by all means be sure to check their references.

Honeymoon – If an extravagant honeymoon is not currently in your budget, opt instead for a fancy hotel for a few nights that is located a couple of hours away. Take in some of the local attractions and dine at some fancy restaurants.

It's not necessary to spend an excessive amount for your wedding day. When it's all said and done the wedding will last only a day. The focus should be on building a marriage that will hopefully last forever.
