A leading video game developer is hinting at using video games as an alternative to psychiatric drugs for treating ADHD

Possible New treatment for ADHD is Super Mario

Attention deficit hyperactive disorder affects about 1 in 10 causing an inability or reduced ability to concentrate orget tasks done. Typically the treatment for this disorder are powerful psychiatric drugs like ritalin. As someone that sufferes from ADHD but refused to take ritalin and often partook in video games which makes me a pioneer in the field.

Although during my time it seemed that video games were just a way for kids to waste time. However, studies have shown that video games do a lot more than just influence kids to do bad things. They do promote hand eye coordination and help kids with goal setting. The treatment for ADHD would be action games that force kids to concentrate. The FDA is reviewing the treatment now but don't hold your breath because many camps believe that video games will take away time that should be dedicated to school and homework.

But it's also not dead in the water, parents and adults want alternative treatments that don't involve drugs.
