Just a few tips that may help ease the angst of starting school.

Preparing for the start of school

Ah, it's that time of year. School is about to start and parents everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief. As parents days are about to become easier it is the exact opposite for children.

It will be tough enough to start a new year with a new teacher, new students and new class rules but, it will be harder if the child is tired and unprepared for the long days of sitting still and following a schedule.

As a parent you can help ease your children into their new year.

Shorten your child's activities.

T.V. Watching, game playing and outdoor play should be limited in the week before school starts. Let your children know that since there won't be any or much of these activities in school you are helping them get used to doing less of it.

If your children have not learned to read yet than you should read to them to help prepare for sitting still and listening. If they can read, set up a quiet time for them to read . Going to the library for quiet time will not only help them with reading time but can give you the chance to take a break also.

Settling in and waking earlier

Have your kids eat, bathe and sleep earlier and wake them up at the time they would have to get up for school. This is going to be hard for both you and the kids but so worth it.

Getting your kids in this routine can be beneficial to both of you as the school year starts. It can help prevent the after school grouchiness and attitudes of a stressful day which is always good for all.

I dabble in poetry and love fiction. I am slightly opinionated and regularly voice my thoughts. I guess my writing may show some of that.

Excellent article and tips. I often wonder what it is like in homes where families homeschool. Do they take off for summer vacation or study all year long? Great writing.
