Throwing a Sports Themed Baby Shower
Baby showers are always a fun party to plan, but the best part is being able to choose a theme for the shower. A sports fan is the perfect candidate for a sports-themed baby shower. Here are some fun ideas to help you plan a pumped-up baby shower to honor the special mom-to-be!
1, 2, 3 - Break!
If the sports fanatic couple finds out that they are having a baby, they have someone to share all of their favorite sports memorabilia with. If you are hosting a baby shower for the mother-to-be who likes sports, then you may want to give a sports themed baby shower. Even if you know nothing about sports, you may find this baby shower to be fun to plan and entertaining for everyone who attends.
There are several ways you can plan your sports baby shower theme. You will need to consider everything from invitations to the food. Before you begin, you need to know what your budget is. If you don’t set a budget before you begin, you may find yourself out of money before you are done.
Invitations need to be sports oriented and can be purchased at the store or made by hand. If you purchase the invitations, you will end up paying about $10 for 16 invitations. If you make them, you will need to buy the supplies it takes to make them but that will be your only expense. You may also like the fact that the supplies you used for the invitations can be used in the future for other craft projects. If you don’t like invitations, you can purchase sports themed stationary and hand write or print out the invitations on the stationary.
You can announce the baby shower like you would a basketball, baseball, or football game with each star player named and given credit. The invitations will set the mood for the baby shower.
Food & Drink
You can have a variety of food for your sports themed baby shower. You may want to consider a tailgating party food theme or you can keep it simple and have a football, basketball, or soccer shaped cake and plates, cups, and napkins to match. You may be able to find sports shaped bowls, like footballs, to serve the food in.
Sports themed supplies are readily available during kick off-season and at the beginning seasons of any sports. These supplies can range from water bottles to dipping bowls. You can make up the punch ahead of time and fill up water bottles to set up on the food table. Everyone can grab a water bottle before they sit down with their food.
Decorations can be done in of course the mommy or daddy’s favorite team colors. Buy streamers and place them from ceiling to the chair for the mommy-to-be to sit. You can surround her chair with footballs, basketballs, soccer, baseball, bat, and gloves, hockey pucks, tennis balls and rackets, and more.
Have the guests autograph a basketball, soccer ball, or football instead of signing a guestbook. You can keep the ball displayed on a stand near the entrance door so everyone will sign it. Another option is a sports diaper cake, these are adorable centerpieces and will really tie your theme in.
No game would be complete without a scoreboard. You can make your own scoreboard using a piece of black poster board and white chalk. You can display the due date, the time left in “the game”, number of fouls, overtime expected, and team players. This is a great way to have fun with the sports theme. Mom can hang this up in the nursery to remember this day.
