This article explains what Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is and how it happens.

Blasphemy Of The Holy Spirit

The devil has accused you of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit hasn't he. Notice there's no question mark, as it was a statement. This is one of his best tricks to newer Christians. He also tells it to those who have not been told what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is, or how it happens. But there is a very specific definition of “Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit,” and you'll find in the Bible.
Specifically, you'll find it in Matthew 12:32: “And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” There it is plain as day, the “Unpardonable Sin.” You can also find the same information, worded a little differently, in Luke 12:10 and Mark 3:29.
But that's not the end of the story yet. The real question is: How does it occur? Or, how did I do it? The definition is in the Bible also. It can be found in Mark 3:22-30. There we can find the entire story, not just that this is an eternal sin. So bear with me as I quote it here: “ And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. Clear as mud, right? Well, as you can see, this is a terribly deep spiritual issue. I've heard it explained too simply, as giving the devil credit for something God has done. But that would be blasphemy against God. That is forgivable according the Scriptures we've read.
But blasphemy of the Spirit is a total different thing. I literally studied this issue several years ago when I wrote my first book, What Sins Are You Talking About? It will be out later in 2014. In that research, I found that to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, a few things happen simultaneously. First, your heart is hardened towards God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Then you begin to tell things that aren't true about the Holy Spirit specifically. One thing that some will say is this: “people who speak in tongues are filled the spirit of satan. Speaking in tongues is straight from the pits of hell.” This is where Jesus was talking about a kingdom being divided against itself. Those that I have personally heard say this, lacked the hardened heart. However, they were repeating things that they were taught in their church, by those who were ignorant about speaking in tongues. But here's another question: Would it be wise to allow such a person into Heaven, that would try to divide those people already in Heaven?Speaking in tongues is a fruit of the Spirit talked about in 1 Corinthians 12:10: “...various kinds of tongues... This is mostly found in Pentecostal churches throughout the world, not just the United States or English speaking countries. The bottom line is this however: If your heart is not hardened against God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, you are incapable of committing this sin. So when the devil tells you have done so, you now know better. And we all know that satan is a liar and the father of lies. So when he does tell you this in the future, rejoice!!! Satan just confirmed that you are a Christian, because the devil just told you that you weren't, and he lies! I would certainly advise you to spend time reading your Bible, as well as time in prayer daily. Thus, when satan tells you more lies, you know the Scripture that he's misquoting, just as Jesus did when He was in the wilderness being tempted. I hope this sets your mind as ease, and lets your spirit soar. Jesus is still on the throne and we still have access to Him through our prayers and thanksgivings towards Him. He still heals our wounds, our bodies, calms our hearts and fears and forgives our sins. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lord's and He's our friend. He's our brother and co-inheritor of all things good and Holy. Now, let's go to Heaven together. I love you all.

Hello Ed .. This is very interesting...
I was always taught that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is when someone attributes the works of God with the deeds of Satan.. the Pharisees did to Jesus in Matthew 12v24.
God bless you
