The Rain on our Parade

Some feel that life should be a bed of roses, but the truth makes it impossible.

Sticks and stones

I am sure we all know of people who continually complain about being hurt by the words or deeds of others. Many such people seem to think that they are stripped of joy and contentment and are unable to achieve their goals because of “the-other-people” syndrome that they have developed over time.

Many of them continually strive to gain the approval of others and do so by imposing their supposed superior knowledge on those within a group having a conversation about specific subjects. The subsequent lack of acknowledgement would result in them finding a lonely corner or they would depart and reflect on the stupidity of those not won over by their superior mind. And so they continue their quest for a pedestal on which others would place them. Anger and depression regularly seem to haunt them. Everyone is raining on their parade, it would seem. Everything stands in the way of them achieving recognition and fame for something or the other. Forever seeking, never finding, they are filled with self-importance and wish to be served by others rather than to apply themselves to humble tasks for the benefit of those around them.

Little do they know or realise that the world we live in is a cauldron of simmering trouble and it dishes out a brew of destruction and pain to all alike. Not a single individual is unaffected by the fumes coming from that pot. The soap operas on our television screens offer a perfect picture of the sickness of human minds under its spell. Those who habitually watch and enjoy these programmes are simply the norm watching the norm.

The human element

The creator of this world, Jesus, made it clear that everyone born into this world will face trials and tribulations. Ironically, it is the human element from which the trouble comes. Were there no human life on this planet there would be no conflict, for the unseen forces of evil (demons) would have no-one to target for the purpose of invoking strife, jealousy, hatred, and bitterness between human individuals and nations.

Therefore, for as long as there are humans and demons active on this planet, our little apple carts will continue to be upset, over and over again.

Is there a way to avoid being targeted by the alliance of demons and their human agents? No, there is not, but there is a way to overcome the onslaught. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

The turning point

Only once we have received Jesus as our Lord and Saviour will we understand this peace. Only once Jesus is operating in our lives will we see life clearly and but smile at the folly and ignorance of those operating under the bondage of deception. If Jesus is in us, then we are seated in heavenly places from where we overcome this world.

Christian couples who continually bicker over nothing should stop and think. Are you completely stupid? The might of the awesome power of the Holy Spirit is within you. Why allow yourselves to be played by a defeated enemy when you have the Word of His Power at your disposal? Wake up!

As for those who believe that life should be a bed of roses, they will continue to be disappointed and “hurt” by their fellow human beings. And those who seek to celebrate their existence by imposing their will upon others will never be satisfied. There is only one thing that takes care of everything – and that is to embrace the One who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life:”
