Here is my meaning of a true friend. Please share yours, at the end.

The Meaning of a True Friend

Two childhood friends who grew up together joined the military wanting proudly to serve their Country. Together they struggled through boot camp, training and the disciplined hardships of preparing to go to war.

Finishing their training both had become men now, so young, so proud standing tall and well prepared to fight.

The two, both assigned to the same unit together, as they always were, went to war and fought side by side. Many battles they fought, never leaving each other’s side each one saving the life of the other many times.

One fierce battle separated the two friends for the first time, each apart in their own foxhole. Bullets, bombs and terror rained down from the sky until one exploded in the foxhole of the other. The friend, having seen the explosion scrambled to run to his friend’s side. The Sergeant, pulled the soldier back into the hole yelling, “Your friend is dead, you can’t go out there”. The friend tried again to get out of the foxhole, so he could run to his friend's side, only to be pulled back in by the Sergeant and told it was no use, his friend was dead.

The soldier took a deep breath, said a little prayer and ran out of the foxhole towards his friend. Through a hail of gunfire, the man made it to the foxhole where his friend lay and jumped inside. He grabbed his friend, threw him over his shoulder, ran back to his Sergeant, and jumped into the foxhole. Exhausted, the two friends laid there. The Sergeant put his hand on the shoulder of the soldier and said, “I’m sorry son, I told you your friend was dead”. The soldier looked at his Sergeant and said, “I know he is dead Serge, but when I got to him, he was still alive, and before he died, he put his arms around me and said…"I knew you would come”.

What is a true friend?

True friends are someone who will always be there for you, through thick or thin and put you first before themselves no matter what. There is a never-ending trust and if one gets in trouble than the other, without hesitation or having to be asked, will be there to help.

True friends will face a giant together, support each other, hold each other up and if necessary, die for each other.

True friendships last forever and never fade away. Although life can take friends in different directions, separating them sometimes for years, they always seem to find each other again and pick up where they left off as though it was yesterday that they last saw each other.

"A true friend is like an old pair of shoes or jeans worn out in all the right places and feel the most comfortable to wear". (Scott Hallock)

When you have a true friend, you are truly blessed.

Conclusion

There is so much to say about having a true friend. They are priceless and I am so grateful for the handful of true friends I have had throughout the years who have made my life so much more enjoyable.

I'm so happy you have the honor of having a true friend.
I have such a friend and her name is Mindy. I met her back in 1977. Throughout the years we have been separated at times because, of various reason. Not by our choosing by any means.
Every time we have come back in each others lives, it is as if time never went by.
A friend to me is honest, looks out for you but, if they see you doing something that will hurt you, they stop you.
They will protect you at any cost. They are loyal to the point they will not allow others to talk smack about you, even if it means they will get a awkward silence from those that choose to talk bad about you. They will tell you when you're making a mistake and then help you through it. A friend is blunt but, does it in a concerning manner and best of all...A friend is one that will let you jam out to a old song, singing your guts out, you not being able to sing a lick and yet...she just chimes in and sings right along with you.
