A certain mood captures the hearts of voters during political elections which influences their votes. This article discusses that certain mood.

The Government Is An Elusive Hope

There is a certain mood that captures most voters in political elections. It is that nagging mood we call “hope.” Hope fills every day of our lives. It does so because life is not as it was meant to be at creation because of sin. Consequently we now live with a constant desire for a better life – the life which mankind lost in the Garden of Eden.

We recently held the 2014 mid-term elections in America. The outcome demonstrated an overwhelming single-mindedness of the voters. What was the object of this single-minded voting? Hope. The voters want, need and expect changes in the government which will allow a better daily life for themselves. THEY VOTED WITH HOPE !

Americans are now expecting our newly elected government to create a better living environment. Will this occur? Highly unlikely. The despairing truth is twofold: (1) Government inevitability is ruined by corruption (2) A corrupted government is more self-serving than serving the people who hopefully elected them. This makes government an Elusive Hope.

It is understandable why non-Christians invest their hope in the government. Beyond themselves it is the government that shapes their lives the most. From a human perspective the government affects their welfare the most aside from themselves. The lost have no other place to cast their hope even though it is an Elusive Hope.

We Christians have a far better hope - a sure hope. Our hope lies in the Person of hope – the Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul commenced his first letter to Timothy saying: “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope.”

One day this life of hope we now live will become reality. We shall be given a new body and a new life to spend eternity with the Person of our hope, Jesus Christ. When will this occur? When Jesus Christ returns for which we wait expectantly. We are “looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.”

OUR HOPE IS NOT ELUSIVE!

Thank you for reading and may GOD BLESS you richly.
