In the Summer, no matter where my bare feet would take me around the home where I grew up, there was always one sound that was constant. The call of the red-winged blackbird.

The beautiful red-winged blackbird.

The warm earth on my feet,
Summer air so sweet,
Clouds floating by,
Browning skin from the heat,
And the call of the red-winged blackbird.

Lazy days by the pond,
Barking dogs here and yon,
Fishing line takes a jerk,
Nature waves brilliant wand,
Hear the call of the red-winged blackbird.

Hanging clothes on the line,
And the passage of time,
Bring me back out again,
To the rhythm and rhyme,
Of the call of the red-winged blackbird.

Rustling cattails in the breeze,
Grass up to my knees,
Blackberries in the pail,
Oh, let me hear once more, please,
Lovely call of the red-winged blackbird.

Great poem and the clothes line is still being used!!!!!! The cattails have taken over the pond, the red-winged blackbirds are still calling and the dogs are still barking!!!!!

Birds are so wonderful, and the Blackbirds song is a treat for our ears to behold.
