this page gives a talk on what the bible says about the experience of street children, it is important to have a view of the scripture on the children.

the bible and children

“…children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honour your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth….Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord…” (Ephesians 6:1-4). The researcher urged the street children to take time and think of what they are really experiencing and give a feed back in the group, this is what one of the children, a 16 years old shared after a moment of reflection; I really don’t know why the situation is like this. When I heard the news of her death, I thought I was dreaming. I thought there was something wrong with my ears.

I could not ask questions because I thought it was a story about someone else. Or just something that happened years ago to someone else. It was hard to believe. It was as tough as counting all the stars in the sky. It was hard to believe because it was a true story. I had to believe because it was true and real. It was a very long story filled with sorrowful words. It was filled with very painful words, which stay in your heart forever. It’s a story to remember because it was the most painful and saddest story for me in my life. It’s a story you would hear while crying tears of blood, But I did not cry because it was a shock to me and too hard to believe. After listening, you would pray to the Lord to take you out of this wicked world the next hour. All because this is and shall be the most painful story in a life of a child my age. It’s a story that happened to someone I’m really close to. Someone so special to me at good and bad times. Someone with a long lasting love for me. She is always by my side. She is the queen of my heart. She cares and loves me. She loves me, and I love her too. I know you wish to know who she is. It’s hard to believe that something very bad like that can happen to someone who you never wanted to feel any pain.

It’s also hard for me to say who she is but I have to say it because you need to know. It’s…..my…..mother. life has never been the same ever since, my aunt who took me and my two siblings was so good to us only two months after the burial, thereafter, she started mistreating us, her children too could beat us, we had to work with no food, no education, I told my siblings that I will be going away and they cried, one evening when my aunt and her children had gone to stroll and left us with all the housework to do, I packed our belongings and we ran away, that was the beginning of a second nightmare, life in the streets. But what I have learnt is that there is someone who loves me even more, God is a friend of the children and He will never let us suffer.
