Moving away from the virtual world ,yet far away from the real world

'No television' expands our family life horizon.

Is television required? can we live without television? will we be a deprived lot without television?

These are few questions arise when we discuss about the utility of television.
We disconnected our television set, when my daughter turned one. We realized, when we watched the TV serial shows , which use to have similar surroundings like home, my daughter reacted as if the serial was for real.
It is was then we thought of disconnecting.
We did not want her to connect to some virtual characters and spoil her impressions about anything and everything.
Her imagination was yet to take its shape, we wanted it to take a natural course depending on her usual surroundings.

Imagine the world they view from the time they are born,
as a newborn, only the top vision
as they become few months old ,side vision
as they sit, immediate surroundings are visualized
as they crawl, they go about visiting the whole house
as they walk, they visit around the house
as they grow older, parents take them around the locality and so on

Now this the process and the pace of the growth of their imaginary world.
By introducing TV , are we not bringing a virtual world in front of them. Curbing their inquisitiveness to explore. That is really bad. Now with television monitors which depict the characters in life size , it will not be difficult for a child to think the character is very much at home.If we consider it is ok with the serials, what about the worst possible news that are telecast-ed on TV. I always wonder will it not create fear in the minds of kids, MINDS which are still in the expansion mode. will they not wonder, the world outside their home is unsafe.

when we have a choice, why not keep their early years of growth free from the effects of television.
We have done it , reaped lot of advantages.
The moment we are home we spend time with each other wholeheartedly
we eat together, talking to each other
my kids are always searching for new modes of playing.
All through these years we read, discussed, sought advice from resourceful persons to learn new ways to engage kids in creative activities.

Its seven years since we are disconnected from the virtual world, but we are still so far from the real world.
