Teaching: A Day by Day Treasure

A wonderful moment retold in first person account all in a humbling day's work of being an educator.

Day by Day

"Teaching's hard! You need different skills: positive reinforcement, keeping students from getting bored, commanding their attention in a certain way."
-Bill Gates

"Equal attention..."

Am having hard time on a particular grade 3 pupil due to her manifested dysgraphia ( poor/slow handwriting disorder) and lack of effort to focus on task given. i talk to her and even wanting to have an appointment to her parents.

I have several students in line that need my equal attention too for different reason in several grade levels. So, it's been at least 7 weeks since I recognized the long haul to dug her up on our tight situation-so I thought.
Right after my first term assessment I asked my teacher assistant to give her extra time for remedial and after class stay-back assistance to improve first her handwriting before i make my recommendation upon parents'-teachers' meeting.

However last Friday, to my surprise, she was able to write a short story in 30 minutes at least 80 words. It was unprecedented, and even twice out put than the two other boys who has lesser need to prompt than this child who used to write only about 1sentence in 1 and half hour in average. Like a monumental milestone I rewarded her 80% on the spot ignoring whatever grammatical errors it contains, the effort is almost priceless for me. The little girl had her seldom smile from ear to ear appreciating her score. After I told her the good job she humbly shared her achievement to to my Asst.-Teacher "it's teacher Tessie who practiced me to write faster"

I am satisfied to say the least, that day I announced to almost every colleague and family members how happy I was that day. Ms.Tessie on the other hand shed a tear on her upon breaking my good news. I knew she felt the intrinsic joy I shared with her fulfilling the noblest job on that particular moment.

"Musing..."

To culminate this article let me share the the following in the poetry of chaotic setting in learning environment.

Musing Inside A Maddening Room
(a tetractys poem)

Five by six meters, two AC units
read at seventeen degree Celsius
a decibel reaching hundred ten
from just six second graders,
white board in the middle
the shrieking wisdom
and sedulous
teacher
so
virtuous
and compose
in the center
of a universe
circled by innocence
marveling the new lesson
at times very animating
to smart-Alec, witty cry babies
in a lively room of education.

Thank you Carol, I guess it was the right path to pursue this profession on this age by design after a good stint in the corporate world in my younger years

She was a work in progress, unlike another student 2 years ago who was a daughter of 'legendary" political clan in my host country. They refused to seek intervention on their grand daughter who has a manifestation of being ASD.

I think this quote was right: "
teachers are heroes without merit". And surely, it should based on the concept of Teaching, Learning and Loving.
Thank you for sharing this your great experience. Good luck to you.. :)

This is certainly a fiction. I'm a parent of one of the boys in the picture. I know the girl doing the artwork and the other children. I'm sure you don't have permission from parents to publish their pictures. The girl doing the artwork does not have dysgraphia.

What's exactly the complain? What made you sure this article is a fiction and not a pigment of your own insecured imagination?

I'll bring this up to the school as you seem to be using the children for your own interest. Your writing is not true.

This s noted Mr Ryan. The story still remained non fiction and is factual base on the story happened. If i blurred the faces of the students here it might simply confirmed they are student am referring too. I never knew North Koren President have relatives here to censor my article. We have also moderator where you can state your grievances.

Erratum: This is a recycled article orignally published on my blog few months ago. It is true to the letter but did not implied any relation to the picture I own. Yes it's true the girl in the picture was NOT the girl with pronounced writing disorder, there was no caption indicating she was.

You do not know what you are discussing. If you are a real teacher, you should have obtained permission first from parents to publish online the photos of our children. You are clearly using our children. I did not give you permission to use my child's photo for your interest. So please delete the picture.

Are you sure you know what a teacher is? Do you know what is copyright? From my last check the picture is not yours but mine. Do you know that this page has a moderator to address your complaint? You shoul at least apologized for claiming the story did not happen, for me to ask your permission is far fetched because i already have a disclaimer and the picture doesnt compromise their identities nor maligned in the story. Now if you still have legit issue you talk to a lawyer. I will be glad to be enlighten.

Should I be worried? Do you have proof it did not happened? As the story suggest it's about teaching... Not about the pictures.

If the children's photo is not needed in the story, delete it please and you can continue writing fiction but not at the expense of our children.

The chidlren is needed because the setting is a classroom that tells about the children. There are two kind of images that can be published here copyright free or my own.

I just learnt from the parent of one of the kids that you are no longer connected with the school where the students are right now studying. Why use them? Please delete this fake story.

Indeed i am not, and i made a disclaimer already about the photos. the story remained true because it happened in another school. as you have read already I never named any of the factual characters and institution. Do you think the picture was staged?Who owns the picture the subject or the photographer? Who has the copy right? Did the image made in bad taste about a poem heralding a learning environment? Were those kids visualized in negative light or you missed the point?

You have no right to put the photo of my child and the other students. Your story is also not true.

Again the pictures are not related to the content but to the theme. Dysgraphia is into writing not doing artwork..the noise in the room was created by six (6) year 2 pupils not those happy kids enjoying some moments with their teacher. Hope this settled the issue forwarded. Again the story is true even the poem created on another class all in the name of effective writing under education category. If you like to contest the authenticity of the story scout a proper venue. Meantime, help your community solving the flood or teach your great kids how to be a better citizens.

Mr.Ryan, do you need attention in expense of your child? Your puttng more harm than concealing the identity of your child hahaha! IMAO you are loser and please don't question the integrity of the story if you don't have proof.

I believe in the copy right legality and artistic license. the story in question is irrelevant however to accused out of context. As a parent i will try to see if this article compromise my son security in terms of location or identity, upon reading and contemplating with the pictures I do not see any except one parent exposed his identity and making this a big mountan out of a mole hill.
