Social media is am important part of our lives. I have a idea that social media will change how future generations do family research.

Social Media Impact on Family History

As the history advances, each generation has access to more information about his or her family. With sites like Ancestry.com, one can easily discover information about ancestors they never met. However, I have a feeling that social media will play a huge role in future generation as they search for their ancestors.

How Social Media will Change Family History Search

Pictures
There are some sites that offer pictures, but not all family history related websites do, however, social media sites will allow you to see what your ancestors look like, over a period of years.

Profession
Census reports usually include a profession for relatives. With that being said, future generations will get a chance to see their ancestors at work, see what jobs they had via sites like LinkedIn.

Recreational Activities
Thanks to sites like Facebook and Instagram, descendants will know what type of things their ancestors did for fun. This will allow future generations to see how their ancestors spend their time.

Thoughts on Controversial Issues
It is safe to say, that we live in controversial times. With all the police shootings and racial issues, particularly in the United States, future generations will know where their ancestors stand in regards to all the controversial things happening in the U.S. and other nations in the world.

Family Traditions
When a family takes a vacation, or have a cookout the pictures go on social media. This may not be as important as other things, but it is cool to know.

Celebrations
When someone receives their high school diploma or a college degree, once again, the pictures will appear on social media. It will be nice to know what school and what educational level your ancestor reached.

In closing, future generations will know more than we did about our ancestors. Several decades from now, people that take on the task of discovering their roots, will know more about where they come from.
