Take a little family time to get together and sing with your child! It' s just a cool way to go. It's great for the soul and the spirit of families getting together. There are many experiences that families share that are a part of cherished memories. But for generations children tell of how much fun it is when family members get together and share their gifts and talents. So many children learned their special gifts from these family gatherings. Have fun singing!

Do You Remember This?

Here is a circle game that many children played- seems simple, but a much cherished family memory that was passed on to children for many generations around the world!

Ring A Round A Rosey

Ring aound a rosey,
a pocketful of posies
Ashes, ashes, ashes, we all fall down!

(Hold hands and move around in a circle, singing the words and when you get to ashes, ashes... everyone fall down to the floor or to the ground!

Think of some different verses and different ways to play this game inside and outside.

How About Your Version of This?

Children all over the world learned this special song as one of their favorites. Why was this such a favorite for so many children and families? Is it that this song reminded children of those first years of being able to go to school. While a lamb may not have followed most children to school, there were some memories of what they took along with them. Of course having a parent accompany a child to the school during those first days seemed like such a cherisable and lifelong memory!

Mary Had A Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow,
Everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day- which was against the rule.

It made the children laugh and play...to see a lamb at school
And so the teacher turned it out...but still it lingered near
And it waited patiently about... 'til Mary did appear.

"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"...the eager children cry.
"Why Mary loves the lamb, you know"... the teacher did reply.

Add your different verses to this. Children can have fun by substituting family members' names in place of Mary. Or add different animals or objects as a part of the
school experience.

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Jump Up and Down!

Here is a fun song and game that children play all over the world. It is interesting that a
teddy bear is the central focus of this song? Does it have anything to do with Teddy Bear songs that are among children's family favorites!

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Jump Up and Down

Teddy bear, teddy bear, jump and down.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.

Teddy bear, teddy bear, teddy bear, show
your shoe.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, teddy bear that will do!

Teddy bear, teddy bear, go upstairs,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say your prayers,

Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn off the light,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say good night!
(Good night)

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

This song motivates many children to think about the life in the sky, as well as what it might be like it they could actually be a star. Stars are very special and unique and each one is representative of different characteristics. If we could be a star, where would we be positioned, how bright will we shine and what image would we portray as a part of the celestial skies? Here is another favorite among children's basic songs:

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high, like a
diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
how I wonder what you are.

Which star are you?

What Do We Hope for on A Rainy Day?

Rainy days are always among children's favorite times. But they can also make long days and nights for families as well as teachers. But rainy days songs have been around for a long time. It allows children to sing them with much creativity and hope. for it gives them the powerful thought of the fact that they can wish the rain away. Here are a couple of rainy day songs.

RaIin, Rain, Go Away!

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day.
Little Johnny wants to play.
(Change the names on wants to play)
Rain, rain, go away.

It's Raining

It's raining, it's pouring,
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed and bumped his head.

(Change verses about what he did)
He went to bed and read and read.

How Many Ducks Did You Know?

Feel free to change the number of ducks to begin and end this song. These songs are great for helping children learn numbers, addition, subtraction and sequencing.

Six Little Ducks

Six little ducks that I once knew,
Fat ones, skinny ones, tall ones too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He led the others with his "quack, quack, quack,"
He led the others with his "quack, quack, quack."

Down to the river they would go,
Wibble-wobble, wibble-wobble, to and fro...
Home from the river they would come,
Wibble-wobble, wibble-wobble, ho, hum, hum...

Five little ducks that I once knew,
Fat ones, skinny ones, tall ones too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He led the others with his "quack, quack, quack."
"Quack, quack, quack; quack, quack, quack."

Down to the river they would go,
Wibble-wobble, wibble-wobble, to and fro...
Home from the river they would come,
Wibble-wobble, wibble-wobble, ho, hum, hum.

Five Little Ducks

Five little ducks went out to play,
over the hills and far away,
Mother Duck said, "Quack, quack, quack,"
and four little ducks came running back.

Four little ducks went out to play,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, "Quack, quack, quack,"
and three little ducks came running back.

Three little ducks went out to play,
over the hills and far away,
Mother Duck said, "Quack, quack, quack,"
and three little ducks came running back.

Two little ducks went out to play,
over the hills and far away.
Mother Duck said, "Quack, quack, quack,"
and one little duck came running out.

One little duck went out to play,
over the hills and far away.
Father Duck said, "Quack, quack, quack,"
and five little ducks came wobbling back.

Time To Count- Counting Chants, Rhymes and Songs!

One Little, Two Little Friends

One little, two little, three little friends,
four little, five little, six little friends.
Seven little, eight little, nine little,

One, Two, Three, Four, Five

One, two, three, four, five, I caught a fish alive.
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten, I let it go again.
Why did I let it go?
Because it bit my finger so, because it bit my finger so,
What finger did it bite?
The little one on the right, the little one on the right!

Take the numbers one through ten in three different languages and practice some simple number tunes. Try a clapping, stomping or shrugging beat to correspond with the numbers.
