From era to era, the maintenance of the dead body without the spirit, or what is commonly known the bodies have been done as a tribute to the practice varies due to the influence of social, cultural and religious traditions

Respect to the corpse, it is tradition or mission?

There is no Scripture specifically designates that God gave the command about what should be done by the family or the Church to handle of the corpse. Similarly, there was no word of God that specifically regulate, promote or prohibit taking care of the dead body. The Bible gives witness to the dead bodies were buried, for example in Old Testament (OT), Abraham lived 175 years after - dead and buried, the bodies of the prophet Joseph sprinkled with spices and placed in crates (Genesis 50:26). In the New Testament the Lord Jesus died on the cross and He also shrouded and buried (John 19:40; Luke. 23: 46, 50- 53).

Tradition Bible = Jewish Tradition

From reading the Bible above shows that the maintenance of the dead bodies varies. Wrapping shroud and spices like balsam for mummy instead of the teachings of Christ but part of the cultural ancestors of the Jewish people. Similarly, the dead body in the crate was also part Jewish ancestors since the days of Joseph that is written in the Book of Genesis 1450-1400 BC. Thus, when there is the question of why Christians are not shrouded corpse? It is part of the Jewish culture and its development is greatly influenced the current culture of the followers of Christ.

The development of the middle Ages

Although the burial process had known since the prehistoric century, rites in burial worship or burial in the church theologically had been known since the middle Ages. Middle Ages was a period in European history since the reunification of the former area of the Western Roman Empire, where the growing religious and affects almost all human activities. In this century, the rise of nationalism was characterized among other things, humanism, as well as the Protestant Reformation with the start of the renaissance (the time of the rise of European culture) 15-16 century (source Wikipedia ensikloperdia). As Christianity since the early Church (cf. Acts. 2:47 ;), death is considered fallen asleep, asleep. Death is also regarded as "the anniversary of Heaven" is more important than the birth anniversary. So it is not surprising that the record of the life of the deceased collected in martyrology (the story of the martyrdom) which was read on the day of death or heavenly birthday including clothing or robes worn as clothing corpse. And in a ritual that requires Sermon, promise and prayer (The Rite of Religious Profession, 1989). Funeral ceremony full psalms and praise that is personal, and more sentimental.

However, in its development, sentimental sermon shift leads to creepy or scary situation, like the punishment of hellfire. The purpose of it to discipline people who still alive to obey the teachings of religion. Worship held in the courtyard of the Church, so that the Sermon could be known and heard by all persons or the general public who witnessed. Prayer was also directed to release the bodies of cruelty tunnel fire in hell. As evidence of that time, there was a note of this prayer written in the Gate city in the province of York, (Introduction to Christian Worship James A. White). This development was clearly not in line with the early Christian understanding that the dead in Christ will receive eternal life, there is no torture.

In 1517, Martin Luther reformed to move the environment known Christian Protestant reformation. This reform movement had brought changes to the worship of scary Funeral become more powerful expression of hope. Sermon emphasized the resurrection of the dead, the dead were considered to sleep and singing consolation echoed continuously. Calvin approved the funeral sermon, but never gave a funeral liturgy as is the tradition of Martin Luther.

Current Developments

At this time, we still see the coffin corpse, worship with singing consolation, reading the history of the person who died, the corpse was embalmed / formalin to last a few days for the ceremony / memorial service before the burial ceremony. We also see the bodies wearing clothes, which are currently understood as a symbol of the bride that people who believe in Christ became the bride of Christ. But this is not binding in the Christian tradition, a tradition that is not related to the teachings of Christ.

Nowadays, the funeral corpse tends to be commercialized. Soil an inch in a large city is worth, Container Bodies various styles and materials are expensive. Colorful flowers and wreaths show the influence of the deceased. Mourners go to the Burial with luxury Bus and go far in the beautiful hill, there all amusement. The services of dead body are now as a profitable business opportunity: the provision of land and fancy coffin. Do you know at the time of the exhibition in Verona, Italy exhibited the coffin for USD $ 3.5 billion? Similarly, the even organizer or Foundation offer the funeral services all in with full facilities that offer ease and be prestige of the bereaved family. Indeed, not all, but the accessories that have no use for people who have died. On the other hand, the Church is more polite. Sermon tried to personalize the event to witness the positive values of the deceased. The testimony of the gospel has been turned into a monumental funeral full of flowers, compliments to those who have died, even poetry is personal, and thus, the actual death events as part of the Gospel message into oblivion.

Try to reflect on whether the body was essentially Service to tradition, or the mission of Christ, this is actually has the most open spiritual opportunity for mission testimony of hope in Christ for the presence of a death in a family. The sermon should convey the message to the people about things that are fundamental, most basic truth about death, resurrection and eternal life, so many people lost can be saved. Not a word of comfort empty. Christianity is not run by a particular tradition; it emphasizes spiritual matters related to the relationship of God to man, and man with his neighbor. The presence of the Church must give light to the customs, habits or tradition that is not in line with the teachings of Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12: 2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so you can distinguish which God's will: what is good, pleasing to God and perfect.

I personally believe, yes, there should always be respect for the person even if it is dead. I also believe that from dust to dust, a dead person should be buried to return to dust. With all respect to everyone who have different belief, Great article!

Its a business of today while the simple concept is from dust you have come to dust you shall return and just a shroud and a hole in the ground would do as the procedure is the same for all decomposition of all living things.
