Rape Most Foul

No doubt, rape is a very big issue worldwide, and Nairobi, Kenya, is no exception. This article is fictional, and talks of what happens every day.

Nancy, 33, was a senior spinster, fresh from her PhD in Marketing Management, in the University of Nairobi, in Kenya. Quite stable financially, she lived well, in one of the up-market parts of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.

She stayed with her younger sister, Eunice, 27. Eunice, also single, worked as a Public Relations Officer at one of the middle-sized firms in Nairobi.

Once in a while, Nancy who also taught at the University of Nairobi, would work late, owing to meetings called by her Head of Department. The meetings would take place after the evening classes, which would end at 9.00pm. These meetings would only be called whenever there were issues to be discussed.

One Tuesday in February 2007, the Head of Department called a meeting. The issue at hand was the resignation of 2 teaching staff members. It took him by surprise, and he wanted to consult with Nancy and the other teaching staff on the best way forward. It was not an easy meeting, and it took them 3 hours before there was a ray of hope for the department.

Incidentally, Nancy’s car had a problem requiring a whole week’s work at the garage. Therefore, at the end of the meeting at midnight, Nancy had no choice but to take a taxi.

This was not the first time she took a taxi. However, they had rarely had meetings lasting that long at night.

She got into the taxi. She gave instructions as regards where she was going, and she agreed with the taxi man on the charges. The taxi man was reasonably friendly and courteous. However, she was shocked when the taxi man took a different route. She queried, but he told her that he had driven in Nairobi for over 15 years, and that he knew all the routes leading to her residence.

She was surprised when he stopped to pick a gentleman, whom he gathered, was Steve. They ended up at the Steve’s house, very far from her residence.

At gun-point, Nancy was instructed not to make any noise whatsoever. She was supposed to cooperate with the 2 gentlemen. They raped her from 1.00am to 3.00am.

After her ordeal, she was dumped at her house at 4.00am and told NOT TO raise the alarm, and NOT to make the mistake of reporting to the police. They would finish her if she did, since they now knew her residence.

Eunice was awake when Nancy reached home. Nancy could not talk. She was COMPLETELY SHAKEN. Eunice did her level best to use her nursing knowledge to give Nancy first-aid.

Very early on Wednesday morning, Eunice took Nancy to Nairobi Hospital, the top hospital in Nairobi. Owing to the damage done to her (she had also been sodomized) she had to be kept admitted for 7 days. She was given anti-HIV-AIDs therapy, and she passed the test.

With the help of Eunice, she had appealed to her Head of Department for a full month for recuperation.

Eunice’s efforts at persuading Nancy to report the matter to the police were futile. Nancy intended to forget the whole episode.

Eunice made an attempt at getting hold of the taxi-man who did the damage on her sister. She asked around town for such a taxi-man, with the help of Nancy’s description of the taxi-man and his car. Not even one taxi-man knew this rogue taxi-man.

With the help of a qualified counselor, Nancy was up and running by the end of March 2007. What an experience!

It's worse when someone feels too
frightened to report the crime.
It means those bastards can now go on to attack other people.

Why call them gentlemen?
Those are beasts that should be castrated and used to pull farm ox-carts! It's a very sad story indeed! Thanks for raising the awareness!

Horrible. I thought Nairobi was a safe place. Men, everywhere, are the same. There is a beastly element in some of them.

Most of them leave their regular ghetto once the crime is committed to prevent an arrest and do the same thing again.
It makes them serial rapists and the trend is observed.
