There are specific guidelines set forth in The Word of God to empower our prayer life. Prayer provides us with a relationship with God. We praise Him and we come to know Him better.

Prayer is a powerful tool God has made available to us. Prayer affords us a way in which we can interact with God. What an awesome opportunity and privilege afforded us; we can talk to God directly and hear from God personally. That is God's purpose for prayer. God wants to hear from us speaking to Him from our heart. I share this heart experience with you. Recently, I experienced some problems with my heart. My doctor advised me to go to the Emergency Room. Prayer was a powerful comfort to me. I am positive prayer played a major role for my positive outcome. God wants us to use this spiritual energy to interact with him and develop a relationship with Him- (God The Father, through Jesus Christ, His Son.). Prayer is- our tool against Satan. We are in spiritual warfare. We must never give place to Satan's attacks. God gives us the guidelines in order that our prayers be effective. God loves order and we must pray in accordance to The Word of God. We must study The Word to know how to pray in line with The Word. Here is what is said of prayer in the book of James.

James 5:16-18 says this.
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” KJV

Immediately we notice from this verse, there are some conditions that must be met.

(1) We recognize our position and our personal vulnerability and dependence on God. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God and therefore we confess our faults. We not only confess our faults but we must be willing to forgive those who have sinned or wronged us. We learn to praise Him for what He has already done for us and our praise helps us to better serve Him for His goodness towards us. It encourages our witness to others. We can confidently say-"God will never disappoint your faith in Him."

(2) We are humbled and totally reliant upon God, as we consider our condition and we want the best for others as well as ourselves. We come with complete sincerity and fervency before the throne of God; we bring our petition in the Name of Jesus. We recognize that prayer is not a “rabbit's foot” affair or demonstration on our part. We come in Faith in the ability of God to answer our petition and His complete willingness to answer our prayer. Our reliance upon God by faith yields to God's timing and purpose in our life- it is “thy will be done” attitude.

(3) Confession brings our the “real you”and leaves no place for Satan because what is brought to the forefront of our minds is-pride, selfishness and ungodly attachments that could hinder our prayer. This all cannot be done without the aid of The Holy Spirit because it plays a great role in making prayer work; the Holy Spirit gives prayer -power.

Romans 8:15 says this:
“God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying Abba Father.” This chapter also tells us that the Holy Spirit helps our infirmities because we don't know what we should pray for as we ought. We must dependent-submitted and committed to the aide of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God says that the Holy Spirit makes groanings for us -we are not able to comprehend them. We find more support of this statement.

Romans 8:16 says this in support:
“The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit.

Romans 8:26 is more support:
“For we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

We know that we walk by faith and our prayer is supported by our faith in God. The Holy Spirit will not live in an unclean temple. Our heart is God's temple to rule our body and soul it must be clean to satisfy the righteousness of God.

Therefore, if we pray in the Spirit, we have the assurance -by faith, that God hears our prayer and our prayer is successful. The most powerfully reassuring thing you can know about God is this. God is immutable. He is always the same. You can always find Him and He will never leave you nor forsake you. You may walk away from Him but it never happens in any other way than you leaving Him.
