After school when your child comes home it can be a challenge to get everything organized. Follow a few steps to make it easy.

Organizing your child's homework

Back to school time means not having a schedule is over. It is time to get organized and put your child on a schedule. This will help reduce the stress of homework time for both you and your child.

When your child comes home from school, it is usually with a folder filled with papers. How to organize the papers can be overwhelming. After sifting through the papers you need to help them do their homework in a timely manner.

Make a homework area and time

Your child should have a nice quiet place to do his or her homework. It can be the kitchen table or a desk. Make it a place that is conducive for your child to do their best. In addition you want to pick a time that your child should do homework.

Create piles

When your child comes through the door, make sure he or she empties the entire contents of the backpack. This will prevent any miscellaneous papers being left inside. Once everything is removed, take the papers and put them in three piles: throw away, homework, and papers to look over.

Put away papers

Any papers that are to be discarded, toss in the trash. If there are important notes, or homework assignments you would like to keep, place them into a three ring binder. You can have them to reference for later. All homework should be put onto a homework area.

Organize homework

Have different folders for different priorities. Place homework that does not need to be done right away in a separate folder. If you have several subjects, divide the homework into different colored folders to make them easy to distinguish. All other homework should be completed that evening.
