It is important to spend one on one time with our children. In order to have the time, I created parent child date.

A Date

Our households can get so busy that we lose track of time. However, if we set up a special time with the kids, we can enjoy a one on one relationship. You could call it date time.

I remember the kids being little and complaining that we did not spend too much time together. In order to fix the problem, I decided to set up date night. During date night, each child spent time with me without anyone else present.

How did we set it up?

We scheduled a night that we could spend together alone. We put it on the calendar, and we planned what we would do.

What did we do?

We picked from different options, like dinner, movie, museum, bookstore, park, or ice cream parlor. We would allocate a couple of hours to the selected activity.

What we got out of it?

The children are now grown, yet remember those dates as very special times with mom. I was amazed at how each remembers the time we spent together and how much it meant to them.

Did it help?

It helped our relationships a lot. We used the time to talk privately. I was able to give each kid my undivided attention and it seemed to help with his or her need for my time.

After a while of having date time with each child, they asked if we could have a family date night. They each showed concern for the unity of the family. Each enjoyed date night, but wanted to do the same as a family. This turned out to be fun. They all collectively decided on the activity and we all found out how much we enjoyed the time set aside to be together.

A Tradition is Born

Now that the kids are grown and have kids of their own, they have continued to have date night with their own children. I, in turn, get to have date night with the grandkids, too.

So, go ahead, plan a date with your child and enjoy adventures of your own. It will build memories and maybe, a new tradition, as well.

A bit of this and a tad of that. However, inspiration, love, relationships, and health are my best topics.
