My Mother's Day Revealed

Mother's day in England was Sunday 10th March. Mine is not a conventional way of spending it, but I love it! Read on to find out more.

My Mother's day Revealed

Every year since they were born, my children, who are now of course adults, have spent Mother's day with me. They never say they are coming until the last minute, but I know without fail, unless something really exceptional happened, they will be there to celebrate that special day with me.

My situation is different from most other mothers, we have never gone out for a meal, which doesn't bother me in the slightest, or make me feel any less cherished , because there is a very good reason.

Anyone who knows me will understand that, I have Phil, who is autistic, and crowded situations, which restaurants often are, maye frighten and confuse him, whereas home and family are familiar, and I know he will enjoy that.

So until this year, we had spent it at my home, and I don't mind cooking the dinner, because the greatest gift for me is to see my children all together and happy under my roof.

Until this year

But this year turned out differently, and it was a really nice surprise. My lovely daughter invited us to dinner with her, which she had cooked herself. They have recently moved into a larger house, so she had the room to cater for all of us, and it also meant I got to see my lovely grand daughter too that day.

So on Sunday we set off in the car, I took the dessert and some wine, and I was really looking forward to it. Phil was excited too, as he loves to go out in the car for a ride. Even the dog came too. It was a nice ride, they live right in the heart of the country, although the weather was bitterly cold, but at least there was no snow.

My lovely girl had cooked a wonderful meal of chicken in red wine, and she was very generous with the red wine! She got the recipe from a friend, with button mushrooms, mashed potato, and broccolii, I defy any restaurant to do better!

We enjoyed a lovely evening together

The time always goes so quickly when you are having a good time, and it did. We stayed the night too, as their house is on the way to where Phil lives, and it would be an easier journey for me the next day. It was just as well we did, as we woke up to a mantle of snow, which looked beautiful, and the snow flakes were falling.

When we arrived to the house where Phil lives, the snow was even worse there, and they had decided not to venture out, as cars were getting stuck in snowdrifts. I travelled on from there to take my other son home, towards London, and there was snow there too. After that I came back to Herne Bay, and was surprised to find we had not had any snow.

Since then I have seen on the news that people have got stuck in their cars, some overnight, so am realising how lucky we were to escape all that.

I want to say thank you to my amazing family for their beautiful cards, their company, and their loyalty, as I have heard of other mothers who do not even see their children on that day! And thank you to my lovely daughter for your hospitality, and your wonderful meal. You did a great job.

Love from your Mum xxxx
