More fires all the time

This is how things are here too many people and not enough space. Under educated about safety, and not wary about what could happen.

Writing about fires and people

Since our last writing about fires there has been several more. Why does it keep happening? No one seems to know, but most occur from overloaded electrical, the next most common is carelessness with the cooking fires, many people cook with wood or charcoal since they can't afford a propane stove , or if the could the can't buy the gas to burn.

The fire today caused a lot property loss, but luckily no one was injured. The area, where it happened has a population of 20,000 and 6000 homes. The amount of property damage is great and devastating to the poor folks that lived there.

Between 150 and 200 homes were lost, this time it was a cooking fire that was forgotten due to some community activity the person went off and for got it. It was a windy day the fire already had a good start by the time it was noticed. An unnecessary loss of property. Many of the things cannot be replaced, several of the places burned were boarding houses, where single employees of the malls lived and every thing they owned is lost, they have only the clothes on their backs.

Road or path

This time is just like all the other times, the access roads are too small to let the fire trucks into the area. One fire fighter said they had to connect 5 sections of hose together so they could get water on the fire. This could all be prevented if when the city opened up the area, they had made fire lanes and set backs to regulate the building.

A few months ago there was another fire at Consolation town it was almost as bad but in a smaller area, densely populate with houses no way into the place. There was a fire hydrant in the area but as luck would have it someone built a house over it and the firemen could not find it!

So when that happens everyone loses, there might have been a chance to save some homes if they had water.

As these places are rebuilt, and they will be, I hope the city regulates the building and makes room for services like the fire trucks and ambulances. If you fell and broke your leg, you would have to walk out about one half mile to get to a road, or with heart attack maybe you would just die.

ISLAND is getting smaller

As these places are rebuilt, and they will be, I hope the city regulates the building and makes room for services like the fire trucks and ambulances. If you fell and broke your leg, you would have to walk out about one half mile to get to a road, or with heart attack maybe you would just die.

We just found out that the mayor will not let anyone rebuild until the whole area is re-blocked for wider roads. The tally is now at 298 houses destroyed and over 2000 people are homeless.

An interesting thing is that the population CEBU province grew by over one million people since the year 2000 when the last census was taken. Is it any wonder the people are living in such overcrowded conditions. You have to remember that Cebu is an island and it hasn't gotten any bigger, so that's why everyone has to crowd together.

Airport

This brings up another subject of population control , just how many more people can this island support before it turns into a gigantic garbage heap, with an airport.

Nice post. As an electrical engineer I had several occasions to visit sites of fires and investigate the possibility of electricity being the cause.
