One of the things I learned as a kid, and I suspect you did as well, was that things always went smoother when you minded your own business.

MYOB--Mind Your Own Business

Matthew 7:3-5

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

3 Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye but don't notice the log in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and look, there's a log in your eye? 5 Hypocrite! First take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Bill and Merriam get along just great, except that she's a "backseat driver" second to none.

After years of putting up with her pestering, Bill finally decided he'd had enough and advised Merriam that he would no longer drive with her in the car.

Later that day, on his way home from doing some Christmas shopping at the mall, Bill heard his cell phone ring as he was merging onto a freeway. It was Merriam. By some slim chance, she had entered the freeway right behind Bill's car.
"Honey," she said, "your turn signal is still on. And put on your lights; it's starting to rain."

Don’t you just hate it when someone tells you how to drive, or how to dress, or how to speak? Yes, I know that you are thinking that is the definition of a wife, but sadly it’s not limited to our spouse! It’s annoying to be going along and have someone tell you how they would do something if they were you. It really makes you just want to stop what you are doing and say “have at it”.

One of the things I learned as a kid, and I suspect you did as well, was that things always went smoother when you minded your own business. Nothing good ever came out of meddling in the affairs of others. It didn’t matter how good your intentions were, when you started telling others how to do things it got messy quick.

Jesus was giving us some very wise advice in today’s scripture. Basically He told us to mind our own business. More to the point, He told us that once we have everything figured out in our own life, then we can fix things in other people’s lives.

If we are spending our time cleaning up our own backdoor, so to speak, then we are not going to have time to camp out on someone else’s. Get your own house in order before you start on your brother.
