Leading And Motivating Others

Effective Leadership can be both emotionally and mentally costly. You must be able to readily identify problems, determine solutions, and delegate responsibilities.

Attracting and Influencing

Jesus Christ is our Best Example of how to attract and influence others. Here is what He says to us in the Book of Matthew Chapter 11.

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Sometimes ~ perhaps ~ those that you give the most attention to as far as motivation is concerned ~ may become unruly and vindictive. Do not lose heart. Certainly leaders need to be encouraged also. Remember the benefits that are outlined in Psalm 103:

2 Let all that I am praise the Lord;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.

3 He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.

4 He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

5 He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

6 The Lord gives righteousness
and justice to all who are treated unfairly.

Encourage those you are leading to do as is shown in Psalm 105 and:

1 Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness.
Let the whole world know what he has done.

2 Sing to him; yes, sing his praises.
Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.

Planning and Empowering

Planning entails being aware of various choices and their potential consequences. It also requires prioritizing. We see this clearly in these events recorded in the Book of Matthew in Chapter 26:

17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?”

18 “As you go into the city,” he told them, “you will see a certain man. Tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My time has come, and I will eat the Passover meal with my disciples at your house."

19 So the disciples did as Jesus told them and prepared the Passover meal there.

We see this also in the Book of Mark in Chapter 16:

15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.

16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.

Of course it is of utmost importance to empower people to do what you have taught (motivated) them to do.

Here is an example set by the Apostle Paul in the 19th Chapter of the Book of Acts as he ministered to certain disciples at Ephesus:

2 “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

3 “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked. And they replied, “The baptism of John.”

4 Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”

5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.

Educating And Sharing

The Knowledge of God and His Word will be key to educating and sharing.

Look what it says in the Book of Proverbs ~ Chapter 4:

20 My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words.

21 Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart,

22 for they bring life to those who find them,
and healing to their whole body.

It is clear that the Lord wants His people to be guided by knowledge and understanding. Here is what the He spoke through the prophet Jeremiah in
the third chapter of Jeremiah in verse 15:

And I will give you shepherds after my own heart,
who will guide you with knowledge and understanding.

2 Peter 1:2-3

2 May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

Remember actions do speak louder than words.

It really is ~ more of a blessing to give than to receive as demonstrated in Acts 2:40-47:

40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”

41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.

44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.

45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.

46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity

47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Thanks for this post. I am persuaded that many more could be motivated if motivators implement a metaphysical approach via a Positive Thinking mindset.
