Is the Afro-American an Opressed Person in America?

the American Negro is better off in America than anywhere else in the world, though he may be discriminated against

Calling a Spade a Spade.

I have been reading a spate of incidents involving the police and the black man ( Afro-American) in many places in America. some blacks have been shot and some arrested and suffocated to death. This does show that there is widespread prejudice against the black man. But I would like to make a distinction between prejudice and oppression. These are not the same thing , though one compliments the other.

Coming to oppression, one thing is clear that the black man is not at all oppressed by anyone. He is free and lives his life as he wishes. There are no dungeons or slavery chains and he is a free man. I will here quote a respected figure John Wayne as to what he said in an interview to Playboy magazine about 2 decades back, which hold true even today.

Wayne said that the Negro had never had it so good in America. Tell me he continued where in the world all over does a negro have a better life and opportunities than in America. In fact he continued the negro was better off in America than anywhere else in the world.

I agree with John Wayne. The negro in america is 100 times better off than he would have been in Africa in countries like say Mali, Chad and Liberia etc. so one can safely say that the negro is not an oppressed man in the uSA. He has opportunities to rise up right up to the top of the ladder as proved by Barack Obama who is a Afro American and the President of the USA.

Coming to race bias and discrimination, yes it is there and many whites resent the rise of the black man. But there is nothing much the white man can do about it. This rise of the negro is inevitable , discrimination or not. The days of the KKK and their ilk are over and talk of purity of white women a concept thrown in the dustbin. The fact is the historical cycle has turned in favor of the negro as the specimen that has survived as per Darwins theory of Natural Selection is the fittest of them all.

One has only to see the field of sports where the Afro Asian who is just 15% of the population garner 80% of the medals in the Olympics. They also outshine the whites in football and baseball.

This powerful physical specimen has volatile results elsewhere and include rapes of white women. But then the Negro feels he is undoing a historical wrong of 200 years of slavery.

These are just some random thoughts and people are free to disagree with me.One can conclude and say there is no oppression, but only some discrimination which will also go away( god knows when)

This is a great piece. Thanks. Sometimes I have to laugh at the fact that we have a black president but some Americans still run around saying we are all racists. LOL

Jessica thinks that the fact we have a black president means we are not racist. That is as simplistic that thinking can get. Blacks are oppressed in America. No, they aren't oppressed in the obvious manner of olden days, but voter I.D. laws are preventing many of them from voting. They are incarcerated at a much greater level than whites. They are discriminated against in employment. There are hundreds of ways they are oppressed when whites are not. Finally, they are much better off in places like France and the Scandinavian countries than they are here.

The word "oppressed" in talking of relationship between races should be deleted. Should white be above black because of color? I believe all men are created equal.
