A personal observation on an inanimate object children grow up with specially on their sleeping routine.

That Loyal Bed Companion

"...better than the unseen Angels for they been the trustworthy guardians,
protecting our children from bad dreams - where parents can not be there..."

Stuffed toys, yes that unassuming usually animal figure sewn from a textile and some other hypoallergenic materials had elevated themselves above a plaything probably transcending all cultures and out-place and out gender its perennial counter part - the rag doll. It is a believe that even the early civilization stuffed toys are already been available.

I've seen children all my life clinging one time or most of their toddlers years. A lot I know even had brought this "habit" all the way to their adolescent stage. Other have even with regrets that they have to retire them sometime before university years. Like a best friend or some lucky talisman some of us attached ourselves intimately to this inanimate object. There is even unwritten rule in many homes who can inherit their favorite teddy had to be the most adorable new kid in the family. Eventually becoming a shared stories, name dropping had to be revealed usually to include memories, good laughs and heartfelt TLC given to this piece of soft plushies.

Why is it so? I have some limited experience, I had wooden and plastic toys before action figures got my fancy. Now seeing my own child and contemplating how those children find joy is an amazing journey of trust and bonding. There must be sensory experience that creates comfort zone. The simulation of an ever present companion top the list. Touch plays a role too, as it also helps children build their first emotional bonds cuddling something in anyway the child can. How about beyond being sleeping buddy? Its tale becoming some sort of guardian is legendary. I think its the start of growing responsibilities and fostering good relationship quotient for a child. During day time the toy become like a new dear pet after receiving a name. Then equality, the teddy becomes the new adopted sibling for the whole family after realizing it has occupied the space reserved for the humans. One time we will be surprised how he wakes up with confidence about the long night he slept alone.Truly cuddly toys in a way becomes better than the unseen Angels. for they been the trustworthy guardians protecting our children from bad dreams and unguarded moments- where parents cant be there. For me its still a good thing knowing at this age of gadgetry, and augmented reality some old wonder toys keeps the world on its normalcy.
