Ignorance

Some say bullying is a way of life. Well I'm here to say that it doesn't have to be if it really is. Because of the ignorance out there on this issue, we allow it to thrive when we should be saying no to bullying. Think before you speak or act. Hopefully after reading this article you'll begin to understand how bullying truly can be stopped if we just try. Be authentic, just be yourself.

Ignorance

How many as a show of hands have been bullied? I'm sure the number by now is beyond count. Ridiculous, right? Not far from the truth, unfortunately. Many have lost their lives because of it, others continue to face the dishonorable acts of their oppressors. And watch as some do nothing to stop it like it doesn't matter. It does matter. Sometimes it saves lives. So instead of doing nothing, the next time someone sees bullying take place, say something...speak up, don't let another person suffer because of this issue.
I don't pretend to know how many of my fellows have felt as they have been tormented but I do know enough that bullying is never the answer nor is it acceptable. For thirteen years, I've felt the harsh sting of a bully's verbal abuse, from preschool to high school. There is no excuse for it. But the part that takes the cake for me the most is when it first happened. Instead of my oppressor getting in trouble for what she did, I was the one who got in trouble because of ignorance, because someone didn't care.
My first bully got away without so much as an apology or consequence. Tell me does that sound like compassion? Remorse, no it does not. Under no circumstance is bullying ever alright or a means to an end. They say think before we speak or act, yet it is a rare find for either these days.
Hope is eternal for this issue to be resolved, stand for what is right and stand side by side against bullying. And for those who think bullying is the way to go, rethink it again and again until it sinks in that if you dishonor another, you bring dishonor upon yourself in turn. Never do anything that brings dishonor to anyone including yourself. Be kind and courteous to others, treat others the way you want to be treated. Bullying only has one purpose and one purpose only, to bring one down so low they feel lesser than they are. We are all equals, act like it. The next time the urge to bully someone lurks it ugly head about reason this: is it truly worth all the pain it causes? The answer should always be, no isn't. Keep that in mind always and forever.

Authentic

Real quick, a word to the wise...just be yourself for no one can say other wise unless it is allowed. For what it's worth being true to yourself is a gem in one's life. A defining moment only the person asked can define wholeheartedly. Besides burying one's self beneath their heart and soul is an injustice all on its own. Be genuine is the advice wisely given. For being fake only brings sorrow to one's inner strength.
Each one of us is different and in our own way, the paths ahead lie at our feet not the feet of another. Do not trouble yourselves over what someone says about you behind your back because of it for it doesn't matter unless one allows it. Once someone grants their true selves to blossom and take flight, the sky and roads ahead far less hazy than before the even began.
It may sound like philosophical and all, maybe it is. Who knows...? All I can say is be authentic in all that you do and strive to be the best person you can be. If you can do that the path ahead is golden forever still.

Thank you for reading this. I hope all is well. Have a great weekend and a great week next week.

As someone who spent years being harassed and bullied, I can tell you that "being authentic and yourself" can get you bullied quicker than anything else.

And like discrimination, bullying can be a subtle thing with the aggressor finding al manor of excuses as to why they feel justified in their actions.

Children can be cruel and you are right about that, teachers and administrators need to start doing something about those who bully their peers.

You're right being authentic can get someone bullied faster but if we give in to the bullies and allow them to dictate who we are then they win, because we allowed them to define us.

I also am in agreement with teachers and administrators need to start paying attention rather than turning a blind eye to the suffering that is going on around them. There is no excuse for bullying and I hope one day, this issue will cease to exist. We can only hope.

Thank you for reading my article and I hope all is well, have a great day.
