I Will Not Be Beaten

I had an intense, loving relationship with my ex-husband for 5 years and even had 2 children with him before we finally got married. From the wedding day, I began to realise that I did not truly know this man. It was as if from the wedding day, he let his true nature be seen. I emerged from my marriage with seriously damaged self confidence, but then began to rebuild my self confidence and my battered self esteem.

I WILL NOT

I will not be broken,
Not even if you beat me today.
I will not agree with you,
For I have my own words to say.

You will not make me fear you,
I will lie down and go to sleep.
Not even when you lay by my side,
Will I let you hear me weep.

I will not be beaten,
I will live to see another day.
I will not be cowed by you,
With reckless abandon, I will not obey.

Even when you scare me witless,
Leave me shaking like a leaf,
I will not be broken,
You will only dent my self belief.

I will not be beaten,
I will be ME you see,
For I will leave you behind me
Even if it takes me an eternity.

I have always liked to write. I write poetry and short stories, but I have never had the confidence in my writing to try to see it published before, so I am going to give it a try, at last!

I am touched and impressed by your determination and words, Sugarbaby125.

More power to all women including myself who have experienced "abuse/victimization" in any way from those we chose to be with.

Thanks Wogiam for your comment. There are so many women out there, who have had the courage and strength to walk away from abusive partners
