There are many different things to consider when you're choosing a gourmet gift basket to send to family or friends. For the many different reasons, and the many different options, get some advice to make your decision a little easier when purchasing your next gourmet gift basket.

Giving Gourmet Gift Baskets

Sending a gift basket can be a nice way to say thank you to someone special. It can also make a wonderful birthday or new baby gift. What you decide to give in your gift basket will make all the difference. Here are some ways you can ensure your gift basket is lovely and well-received.

So You Want to Send a Gift Basket...

If you are ordering from a company, not making the basket yourself, if at all possible, try to see the actual gift basket in person. Sometimes you are ordering by phone or are only seeing a sample of what the basket will look like. In most cases, that’s perfectly fine. But if you can select each item yourself and have it made for you while you wait, that’s a good choice as well.

Local shops are nice because you can walk in and see the basket. But if you are just seeing a sample of what might be included, ask to see the finished basket before it’s delivered. That may mean another trip back for you, but it’s better to go pick it up yourself or at least check it for quality before it’s delivered.

Where Do I Order?

Often you’ll order a gift basket online for convenience. When selecting a gourmet gift basket online be sure to check what exactly will be included. If the description just says “an assortment of chocolates” you might want to call and get more information. What kind of chocolates do they use? Are they high end? Are they different types and brands? How many come with the basket?

Not all gourmet gift baskets are created equally. Try to find a reputable company like Mrs. Fields, 1-800-Flowers, Martha Stewart or All About Gifts & Baskets. If you know the name, you can pretty much rest assured that the contents are going to be worth the price. Big companies stake their names on what they deliver.

What Goes in Gourmet Gift Baskets?

What should you put in a gourmet basket? That depends on the recipient. If it’s someone you know well, send their favorites. Do they love David’s cookies? Then go with a whole assortment. If they don’t eat sweets, send a savory basket with gourmet pastas, sauces and maybe a few kitchen gadgets. If they are having a new baby, send a gourmet cookie bouquet filled with yummy cookies mom and dad can savor as well as any other children.

Who is Your Reciepient?

Today’s gift baskets can be made with just about anything. The choices are endless. If you’re giving a business gift basket, think about the recipients. Are they going to be sharing the contents with the whole office? Why not send bagels and flavored cream cheese? Is it just for the boss who loves to golf? You can send a golf gift basket that includes chocolate golf balls as well as other golf related items.

It’s ok to mix in edibles with non-edibles as long as you stick to one theme. Gift baskets go awry and look shabby and unfinished when they contain unrelated items. So it you’re going with sweets, stick to all sweet things. If you’re going for a barbecue theme, include only items that pertain directly to barbecuing. There you can include tongs, barbecue sauce and a book on grilling. As long as they all relate to the topic. Gift baskets can be really fun to create and give. Why not send one today?
