Many women have a belly bulge after having a baby. Here are some tips on how to hide this.

Introduction

A common problem among women, particularly those who have had children, is having a belly bulge. While in the long term it is best to try to eliminate this problem area through good diet and focused exercise, a short term solution is to wear clothes that hide your belly bulge. This can be achieved while still looking stylish by following some simple tips.

Supportive Undewrwear

The first thing to do is to invest in some comfortable, well-fitting undergarments that will give the impression of reducing your belly bulge. A good, fitted bra will lift your breasts. This will not only remove the focus from the stomach region but will also accentuate your waist. Many knickers companies design knickers that include a tummy panel. This will hold in your belly bulge and smooth out the lines of your lower torso. Wearing both of these garments will have a slimming effect under your clothes that will help to accentuate your best features and reduce the appearance of your worst features.

Flattering Tops

Another tip is to wear tops that are fitted around the bust area, with fabric that floats loosely down to below the hips. This will cover the problem area while accentuating the breasts and the slimmer areas of the lower rib cage and waistline. Dresses of a similar shape can also be worn. A-line tunics or dresses can have a similar effect as they draw the eye past the tummy bulge. If you have decent legs, wear these dresses just above the knee and, again, attention will be diverted away from your tummy bulge and down to your legs.

Well-Fitted Clothes

It is tempting to believe that if your tummy is your problem area, then it is a good idea to wear elasticated trousers or skirts. The opposite is true. Elasticated items tend to enlarge an area as the fabric is gathered. You should wear well fitted trousers. Those with a side zip are a good idea as those with buttons or zips at the front draw attention to your belly bulge. Never wear trousers that are too tight as this will result in your belly bulge spilling out over the top of your trousers. Wearing darker coloured trousers with a high waist will also disguise the belly bulge.

Things to Avoid

Avoid wearing elastic or Lycra items over the area of the belly. These will only accentuate the extra weight that you are carrying in this area. Go for stiffer, thicker fabrics that will help to conceal your bulge. Not all tummy bulges come in the same shape or size. To find out which style of clothes suits your shape best, try on different styles, fabrics and colours. Try taking a friend with you to offer helpful advice.

Well I wore tuck outs and upsized till I lost weight.
I am now a six and dishboard on belly. Took hard work to lose the fat and get my figure back and become a model again.

I've had 6 children. two of those were C-sections. One of the pregnancies was very difficult. My pelvis dysfunctioned causing a tiny split. That left me in a wheel chair for almost 8 months of my pregnancy because I could not walk. The bottom half of my tummy has never been right since, and on top of the other pregnancies, my tummy and pelvis has taken a bit of a strain.

I've found yoga helpful for strengthening the muscles, although deep pelvic exercises are still painful. Tummy creams help to tone too.

I will still wear a bikini and a costume, but the bottoms have to be full length shapewear.

Be proud of your body, you had children and that is more pain than my husband can handle!
