Homeschooling: Yes, No, Maybe So?

The decision to homeschool or not is definitely NOT and easy decision.

What's an Old Mother to Do?

I'm a 46 year old Grandmother to 3 boys, 4, 2, and 2 months. I am a Mother of 3 girls, 21, 17, and.....3. I'm an old-new Mommy. I had my Mikayla when I was 42. She's a joy, and her and my oldest grandson Izaiah are growing up together and it is a joy to watch.
My dilema, as well as Izaiah's Mommy's, is if we should homeschool them, at least for the first 2 or three years. The local school system just isn't up to what we wish for them. They both have been taught here at home and we are afraid that once they get into the school system, they will stagnate.
The both know ABC's, numbers, colors, shapes. Izaiah is starting to read short words. Mikayla loves numbers. If they go to public school, will their learning be slowed down to accomodate children who don't know as much as they do? In the past year, there have been teachers arrested for child pornography, for smoking marijuana IN THE SCHOOL, etc. Do we want to chance it? Do we move to another district, where it could be the same or worse?

These are the questions and concerns that we have in regards to the early education, and eventually life education for our babies....anyone else in this dilema? Anyone homeschooling that could give us some pro's and con's?

Bottom line is we want what is best and right for our little ones!

Hi J. Suzette,
I'm a homeschooling mom who's been homeschooling my now 13-year-old son (with the exception of some sporadic months in public school), since he was 6.

If you have specific questions, please feel free to email me.

Hi - I've been homeschooling my four sons for the past 12 years! Three have graduated high school and gone on to college. My youngest is still in middle school. Homeschooling has been great for our family. It's not easy, but it's definitely do-able! I am happy to answer questions if I can. Also, check out the welltrainedmind website and its message boards. It's a wonderful resource with people homeschooling for all kind of reasons and in many different circumstances. Good luck!
