Birds fly in hungry. What are you going to do? Here's a quick how-to.

Peanut Butter And More

There are many ways to feed birds. Here is one of my favorites. Cover a pine cone in peanut butter. Then, spread seeds all over it. The seeds should stick to the peanut butter. Many animals enjoy peanut butter so don't be surprised if your dog tries to get to it first. This is why you're going to take a string and tie it as high in the tree as you can reach.

Do you have any left over 2 liter pop bottles? What you do is cut a small opening in the plastic bottle around the center. You want to make your feeder so you can turn it up right. Add a perch made from a stick if you want. Fill it up with bird seed and use some rope to hang it from a tree. Looking at the photo if you click on it you will be able to see the little bird feeding itself in this bottle.

Milk Jugs And Bread Crumbs

If you have an empty milk carton you have a bird feeder. If you have kids you have someone to make a few of these for your bird friends. Even something as simple as tying a piece of bread to a tree can work. We tried this not too long ago at the start of spring. We checked later in the day for the bread and it was gone. It's not hard to feed birds. They're everywhere and they're always hungry. Flying works up an appetite.

You can use one of those fancy bird baths, but a bowl of water left out on the porch will work too. If you put it near bird seed, they will know it's for them. Ideally bird baths are shallow. So, you will want to keep this in mind. Just place it along the back railing of your deck. Make sure it's not breakable. You know a square pan might work best. Mrs. Feather Flight will be in shortly for a quick wash and dry. Also, she'll have herself a bite before flying away again. Wave from the window. Bye-bye.
