Hold your breath and discover a miracle

Not much thought is given to the most important aspect of our lives. Looking at it this way might bring it to the fore.

It’s impossible

Have you ever tried to speak while holding your breath? It simply is not possible and neither is it possible to speak while inhaling air into your lungs. In order for your words to be spoken, air from your lungs need to pass over your vocal cords and out of your mouth as you form words. So what’s the miracle?

While you are trying to accomplish the impossible by speaking while holding your breath, you can, while holding your breath, actually speak a thousand words inside of you – right inside your belly, in your heart, which is the very core of your spirit. Although we refer to them as thoughts, they are actually words spoken inside of you and only you and God can hear them. Now what does this prove?

The miracle

Not only are breaths of air needed to keep your physical body alive, but they are also necessary to communicate with the world outside of you. What, then, makes it possible for you to actually form and speak those words inside of you in the first place? It is the Breath of Life – the very life of God inside of you. Without the Breath of Life – the Life of God – you would not be able to breathe air, let alone live. Have you ever heard a dead person speak? A breath of air and the Breath of life are two different things.

It is your spirit that speaks – and when it does it tells your brain (the part that governs the process of speech) to prepare your lungs to expel air in order for the words already spoken in your spirit to be released through your mouth. The chief “executive officer” of your spirit is the mind of your spirit. This mind of your spirit decides how to express the final product through your mouth.

As you think

The human brain does not think or store memories. All thinking takes place in the “Breath of Life” part of our existence where all memory is also recorded and stored. It is known as your book of life or soul. (for as a man “thinketh in his heart, so is he.” )

All those words that you speak in your spirit before you release them into the world need to be carefully “drawn up”. In other words, they need to be founded on love, joy and peace. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Ps 19:14)

The contents of our soul (our book of life) are also recorded in God’s Book of Life and will be reviewed when the time comes. “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” (Mt 12:36)

Without it you can do nothing

Without your spirit you cannot drive a car. Without your spirit you cannot go shopping for clothing and make up to beautify the physical part of you that is kept alive by your spirit. If God had decided not to give us a physical component we would have been spiritual beings doing exactly what we are doing now, except that we would have had no need for food or sleep or motor transportation. It is only the physical part of us that needs oxygen, nourishment, rest and a means of transport. Of course, beauty pageants would have been out of the question. What’s more, imagine being your own smart phone service provider, just thinking across the space between you and the intended recipient of your thoughts.

It goes to show that we are so flesh conscious and fleshly minded that we are completely oblivious of who and what we really are and what the Source of our existence is.

And did you know that your physical health is dependent upon the purity of your spirit? A self-obsessed, judgmental and vindictive spirit can translate into serious bodily ailments and diseases. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” (Prov. 17:22)

Yes, we are walking, talking miracles of God. Try saying that without your Breath of Life.

Here’s some more food for thought.
Job 33:4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Ps 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
Ps 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Pr 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
Pr 25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
