Repentance opens the doors of His abode. True repentance has the potential to cleanse the soul.

Gospel music

Jesus says in Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” According to some believers, repentance is a prerequisite to belief.

According to them, the basic meaning of repentance is “to change.” After hearing the gospel, and after being convinced that his current way of life will not lead him/her to God, the person must change.

Repentance is not just feeling remorseful, but being so stricken in one’s heart that one determines to live as per God’s wishes. Remorse without a corresponding change in the way of life is not repentance.

Here are some popular gospel music repentance songs.

“Lead me to the Cross” is performed by the Hillsong United band. It is about the love of Jesus, His sacrifice, His sufferings, His blood, His wounds…all done for people at the cross of cavalry. If we respect the Being that Jesus was, is and will ever be, we need to repent and aspire to ennoble ourselves.

“Come Thou Fount, Come Thou King” is performed by Gateway Worship, a popular American Christian worship band from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. In the song, the singer states that God helped him/her when he/she was in darkness. It was God’s live that set us free.

“Salvation is Here” is performed by Hillsong United. Here the singer believes that everything is going to be alright. Due to God’s presence, salvation is here, at this very moment. Here again it is possible because there is nothing impossible to God. But it is possible only if we are willing to change ourselves and walk the path showed by Him.

“Be Magnified” is performed by Don Moen. The singer seeks forgiveness from God for belittling Him. There is a sense of repentance. And there is a sincere appeal to God to “Be Magnified” and to heal the heart.

“Bring the Rain” is performed by MercyMe, a popular American Christian rock band founded Greenville, Texas. The lyrics go something like this, “I can count a million times, people asking me how I can praise you with all that I've gone through. The question just amazes me, can circumstances possibly change who I forever am in You…” Wonderful!

The above-mentioned gospel songs are melodious and enriching. They have an ennobling effect and a nourishing effect on the soul.
