God's Four Ways of Creation

Genesis 1:1 says, " In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." A study of the text of Genesis reveals that creation occurred by 4 means.

"And God said...,."

We find this phrase or formula several times in chapter one. The creation of light, the expanse described in verses 6-8, the creation of dry land, the sun, moon and stars, the sea creatures and birds, then 'living creatures': livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth, according to their kinds" - all these things came into existence because, "God said".
While Genesis 1:26 begins with the phrase, "Then God said..." regarding the creation of man, we have a more in-depth account of the creation of man in chapter 2.

"And God said,...and...,."

We see in verses 11 and 12, "And God said,... and it was so." Here we read 'God said', and then that 'the earth brought forth...,."
In verses 24 and 25, we see both these two things taking place, along with the statement at the beginning of verse 25, stating, "And God made...,."

The creation of man... then woman.

Chapter 2's major focus, beginning at verse 7, is the creation of man. Verse 7 tells us, simply, "Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Created from the dust of the ground. This is why, after the fall, while pronouncing the punishments in chapter 3, God says to Adam, " By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return."
The fourth means by which creation took place was the creation of woman. God, deciding that it was not good that man be alone, chose to create a "helper fit for him." We are told in 2:21-22, " So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.
The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man." So Eve was created by God from Adam's rib. The Hebrew term is translated 'built' regarding taking the rib and creating Eve.

Re-read Genesis 1 and 2

Re-read these first two chapters slowly regarding the creation. Then stop to think of all the various types of fruits, vegetables, trees, flowers, bushes, animals, and sea creatures and everything else. Then cry out to God in praise and recognition of His incredible imagination and creativity for all He has done. Then do that again because He made you in His image, and would redeem you from the curse of sin by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for you, and make it possible for you to spend eternity with Him. God bless you!!
