Sometimes we just want God to fix things. We are impatient, and want our problems taken care of right now, when God is saying wait.

God will fix things!

God is Going to Fix Things!

So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:6-8, NLT)

A short time ago “rapture guy”, Harold Camping, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy advertisements to warn the world that the rapture was coming soon. Not just soon, but specifically on May 21, 2011 at 6pm local time. Of course, he was wrong, just as he was wrong before and just as he will be wrong on his newly revised date of October 21, 2011. Some people who were duped into following this charlatan literally donated their life savings to further his nonsense. What would cause people to make such a foolish decision?

The reason is people are looking for something to hold on to. They are looking for a promise that can provide them a glimmer of hope in a world full of disappointment. They just want God to fix things.

The disciples were asking Jesus to fix things. They were sitting across from the doctor when he says the tumor is cancerous, they were behind the wheel of their car when the engine blew, they were survivors of ground zero of an F5 tornado, or survivors of a great flood. They were the husband whose wife sits across the table and says the marriage is over, or the parent who buries a child too young. They were people just like you and I who have experienced tragedy after tragedy and just want God to fix it.

Jesus answer to them really wasn’t all that comforting. He told them they were not to know when God would “fix it”. He told them to wait! Who wants to wait? Not me! Probably not you either.

There will come a time when every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, but that time is not now. We must learn to wait.

A young lady busied herself getting ready for a blind date.

This was not just dinner and a movie; her date had planned dinner at an exclusive downtown restaurant with live music and dancing. Wanting to make a good first impression she had taken the day off work. She cleaned her apartment; she went out that afternoon to have her hair done and get a manicure. When she got home she did her makeup, put on her best dress and was ready for her date’s arrival. His expected arrival came and went, but she continued to wait patiently. Finally after waiting over an hour she decided she had been stood up, so she took off her dress, let down her hair put on her pajamas, gathered all her favorite junk food and sat down to watch TV with her dog. Sometime later there was a knock at the door; it was her date. He looked at her surprised and said, “What I gave you an extra two hours and you’re still not ready to go!”

I don’t know why God is delaying Christ’s return. I don’t know why God won’t fix things right now. I do know this. I know that Christ is coming again. And when He comes, God is going to fix things.
