Getting Married In Las Vegas Was The Best Decision Ever!

Las Vegas - a wedding destination not everyone thinks of, but here is why I believe it was the best decision we ever made.

Planet Hollywood Resort And Casino, Las Vegas

My Avatar shows us on our wedding day. Sunday 13th April 2008 to be precise. Why did we decide to get married in the Planet Hollywood's Wedding Chapel? Well, for us, we did not want a fuss, basically which may sound strange, but think about it. We actually stayed in the hotel too, which helped tremendously from a logistical point of view. I am from Blackpool, England and John is from Carlisle, a hundred miles away so where would we have got married? To stop all the wrangling we decided to tie the knot over in Las Vegas for the convenience. Everyone we wanted to be there WAS there and the rest we invited to a "do" the following month, here in Carlisle.

Was it dodgy arranging everything online? No, not really. Communication was far easier that way. Even the deposit was paid online. The only downsides were the limited facilities for storing my wedding-dress. I had it hung up in Mum's hotel room but, amazingly, it had no creases in it, unlike Princess Di's.

One word of advice though. If you can afford the Premium Economy seats plus a direct flight to Las Vegas, then I would do both. I can actually compare the two because the previous time we went to Vegas we were in the "sardines" section with a connecting flight from Chicago. This can make the journey time drag significantly from Manchester Airport and, as John put it, "I've gone 18 hours without a smoke!"

So, bear this in mind and, wherever you choose to be married, please take your time as it is your day and no-one should interfere with any of your decisions on the most important day of your lives. Oh, and no, Elvis did not marry us, a rather lovely "proper" Minister conducted the ceremony and very good he was too.

So romantic!

Currently I am unemployed so I have a lot of time on my hands. However, I feel I need to be on the internet, communicating with others, giving advice, making people laugh and, hopefully become well-respected on wikinut.

I love it when it's low-key, I don't like being the centre of attention, even in a wedding dress!!

Congratulations! Location really doesn't matter but you find satisfaction in that too, then this is something else! May happiness find a permanent place in your hearts. You've taken out of Vegas something that happened in Vegas, that's love! Great tip at the end!

Thank you! It is a very special place as we got engaged there the first time (I didn't have a clue as John kept it a secret) so that was an added reason to go back, but to a different hotel with a new chapel within it. Glad to be of help! :-)

I love the sound of your wedding too my friend. I hate those lavish weddings (for me at least) as my cousin had one and was divorced 18 months later..I was one of the bridesmaids. Maybe her experience put me off, I don't know. I still had a fab dress though..couldn't resist!! Thanks for welcoming me to wikinut, it means a lot..oh, and I love the dog! Very cute! :-0

Janey, it was a fun wedding We are still going strong after 2 decades. I too had a nice dress, oh well... I saved on the catering bill.
I catered the reception, so it was a win-win situation. I even made our cake
Mind you though, I will not do that again...I cooked for 5 days before the reception,UGH! LOL
Of course I would love to come y'alls way, what a beautiful and historic place to visit.
My Bugg, whom I write about, is aka Buggah and yes you have to say it with y'alls accent. Love it!
I am so glad you found wikinut, I like your writing style and quite frankly...
I like your style period.
Now my daughter will be getting married in March of 2012 and I promise you,
there will be nothing quaint about it. She has dreamed of her wedding since she was a girl.
I'm just glad she has found the perfect man, whom I adore and who may I add...
I introduced her to.
I look forward to more of your work.:)

Thank you so much! You are giving me so much encouragement, it's great! I'm so pleased you love your future son-in-law, it makes all the difference! Don't forget to write about the wedding, I know it's a while off yet but it will fly! It's not the 24th March by any chance is it? That's my birthday if it is! My Dad's is the 20th.
