Facebook, the house breakers guide to empty homes

One of the greatest phenomena’s of this generation, there are simply millions of us using the social networking site, But why ?, is it a good way of socialising, chatting to friends, finding new friends, well they are all true, Everyone you talk to seems to mention Face book somewhere during a conversation, everything from “did you see Sally’s picture on Face book” or even telling the interested in your status, whether you are single, or found a new partner, you can also invite all your friends at once to a forthcoming event like parties etc., there is a million and one things which can help amuse or inform someone,
Then you get the negatives, there are not too many negatives but they exist, firstly there is the subject of cyber bullying, where there have been quite a few recorded incidents leading to the worst scenarios, you also can’t keep secrets on these sites,
There are new things all the time being added to web sites and Face book is no exception, One of the last one’s I noticed was the option to tell everyone where you are at any one time from your mobile phone, I simply clicked the button and yes, everyone on my friends list new where I was, which for a minute or two I was pleased as punch, as I had done something new, then I was looking through all my friends home pages, just being nosey to find out where they were hanging out, then thanks to a good friend of mine a local policeman as it happens sent me a message saying “Do you realise that you have just told all those people out in Face book world that your house has a good chance of being empty so the criminally minded people can go and help themselves to your belongings” so to my shock and horror cancelled the application as soon as possible, and thanked my policeman friend for the insight,
Not everybody is a criminal but it only takes one to ruin a life so be careful.

Hi Sketch. A little constructive criticism. I hope that you will accept it as such. As writers, we paint pictures with words, so choosing the right words is of paramount importance.

In your summary, you wrote, "Log on to Facebook check to see if your culprit is home or not before you rob them," You used the word "culprit" when you should have used "Victim" or "Target". A "culprit" is someone who perpetrates a wrong doing. The person breaking into the home is the real culprit in this case.

There is a great program for checking word definition from where ever you are, no matter what app you are using--it's called Word Web. There are two versions--a free version and a Pro Version. You can use the free version for as long as you want without paying anything. I have the Web Word Pro version because of it's many additional words and other features. It's a bargain at $19. Try the free version and then upgrade to the Word Pro version if you like it. Here's the URL http://wordweb.info/

Sketch, I have been writing for over 35 years and I use this program every day.

Hope this helped.

You have talent as a writer, but simple mistakes like this one will blind many people to the talent you possess.

Actually, Sketch, that is a smart move. A large percentage of the people who read online article put more trust in writers who do use their real names.

Yes Martin, you have to save first then click publish. I made that same mistake several times before I caught on.

Hi Martin thanks for your piece I agree with you that people need to be more aware of what they are putting about themselves on the net.
