Christians That Overcome

Roman 8:35- 39 tell us: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I’m not sure I can add much to this, so I think I’ll just quit and go home now. See ya.
Well, maybe I can add a little bit. But that’s good stuff right there Buddy. There is one thing that can separate “us” from the love of Christ Jesus. That would be “us.” Yet, why would “us” do that? But wait a minute there you preacher writer person, who could possibly do that? Are you sure you are ready for that answer? I’ve told people for decades, “don’t ask questions if you’re not prepared for the answer.” So here, this is you answer: you would. When you find things you would rather do than serve Christ.
Ouchy! We, “us,” if you will, are the reason we walk away from a God that died for us when we didn’t deserve it. Why would we walk away so easily and readily? Wow! It’s mind boggling when you really ponder how quickly it happens. There are some really fun things out there that might not happen in a church. But is it worth the consequences?
Oh come on Ed! Can’t we sing kumbaya once in a while and it’s all good? Oh how I wish it were that easy. If we could just go through life and never yield to even one temptation, life would be so much easier. True, but there would be no ice cream or candy bars.
On a more serious note, there really are some tough temptations in our current world. So much so that Jesus Himself told us wide is the path to hell, but narrow is the gate that leads to everlasting life. (Matthew 7:13) The goal is to make Heaven our eternal home, not a dream that is never realized. We are “more than conquerors” thus Heaven is waiting on us when it’s our turn to go.
When cancer shows up at our house, we will overcome it. When we have very little food in our cupboards, we will eat. When our spouse dies unexpectedly, we have the comfort of knowing that they are with our Father smiling and enjoying themselves, perhaps for the first time in a long while. No more pain, a full memory, no limping going on up there. When money is in short supply our God is still able to meet our needs. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:19. There isn’t a negative experience we can have on this planet without God turning it into a positive experience. We will certainly experience the highs and low’s life has to offer. At times they will even shake our faith. But for the one who overcomes all of this and still stands tall, look what is waiting for you.
Revelation 3:5 “The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.”
Revelation 12:11 “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”
Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”
John 16:33 “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Revelation 3:21 “The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on His throne.”
Revelation 3:12 “The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.”
Revelation 2:11 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.”
For those of us who live the life of an overcomer we have a lot to look forward to. Oh what a wonderful place to sit and relax for a really long time. Sitting on the throne with Jesus Himself! Now that’s way cool! We can do this my friends. The life over an overcomer is not just hocus pocus or some mythical thing that can never happen to us. It’s at the forefront of our very being when God is the center of our very existence. This is the result of daily devotions and spending time with the God of the universe. If our God loved us enough to sacrifice His Son for us, can’t we at least thank Him by our actions in public and in our homes? I think yes.
I can do a better job of this of course. I miss days at a time once in a while when I allow life to dictate my time. I’m working on making this a thing of the past. There is a list of people who need prayer for a lot of reasons and it’s my job to pray for them. You can’t have any idea what an impact you can have on people you may not know by simply praying for them.
If you haven’t asked God to become the center of your life, this is the best time to do so. Make these words your prayer: “Father forgive of my sins. Cleanse me from my unrighteousness. I confess my sins. Please come into my life and make me a new person. Thank you for sending Jesus to take my place on that cross. Please help me to keep you as the center of my life. Thank you Father, for everything. Amen.
If you said that prayer you are now a Christian and all the angels in Heaven are shouting on your behalf! It’s the most favorite sound of God Himself. Welcome to the family. I look forward to meeting you in Heaven if not before.
