Christianity

With so many people claiming to be Christians in today's society, it's become a "word" more than a lifestyle, or a life of being a "Follower of Christ." IN times past, the word "Christian" actually meant something. Unfortunately, it appears those days are gone for the vast majority of our population. This page merely tries to make that point without being judgmental. It is however designed to provoke thought and conversation.

Christianity? What's that?

Perhaps a better question would this: "What do you think it is?" Or, "What does Christianity mean to you?" Please feel free to get involved with this conversation and respond to this article and answer those questions.
For the sake of full disclosure, I began going to church nine months before I was born in 1959. So I guess I actually started in the latter part of 1958, as I was born in May. My point being this: I was raised in church growing up and continued to attend as an adult. What I have seen over these years years is the decay of the relationships with God, yet people continuing to claim being a "Christian." I am not going to judge you, the reader, nor am I going to tell you what to think. Your relationship with our Creator is totally yours and yours alone. However, I do hope to encourage you into a closer walk with Christ. Oh ya! I am not going to ask for money either. Let's make that very clear, nor will I accept it.
What God has done so wonderfully for us as humans, is to show us the true way to Heaven and how to get there. It's easier than you might think, yet the rules are His, not out interpretation of them. He tells us there is only one way to get to Heaven, yet I keep hearing about other ways. I hear some religions say that theirs is the only way to get to Heaven, yet there is no mention of any religion in the Bible. So how do we know which way is correct? Find out for yourself. You do that by reading your Bible and spending time talking to God, praying, listening for feedback from Him. I have found over the years that my darkest days have been when I wasn't reading my Bible and praying daily. When I did I still wasn't perfect, but my relationship with God was a close one. I also knew without a doubt that I was going to Heaven if I were not to survive that day. You too can have that assurance, but it's up to you to get there, I can't do it for you. Nor can anyone else do it for you. It's your relationship, and yours alone. So you are in charge of its quality or lack thereof.
So let me at least give the Biblical version of Christianity and what it is and its foundations. Of course we know that Christ died, was raised from the dead three days later, and ascended into Heaven in front of a bunch of people. But let's look at the Scripture base. We can find it in Paul's first letter to the Corinthians. Chapter 15 verses 3 and 4. Paul is telling the church there once again the foundations of their beliefs and he does a pretty good job, and it's concise. Verse 3 says,"For I delivered to you as first importance what I also received, that Christ died died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures..." Basically what I said earlier.
But let's keep going deeper. In Matthew Christ describes who all of this was designed for and tells them to go preach it. Matthew 28 and verse 18, "And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." He doesn't mention any specific religion, religious leader or prayer position. Just "all the nations." So, if you belong to a nation, Christ died for you and left some commandments for you to follow. Let's go a bit deeper. In Acts chapter 4 and verse 12 it tells us this: "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved." So it's a very specific requirement, that we look to Christ for our salvation and Him alone.
One more point and I'm going to let you read this one for yourself. In 1Corinthians chapter 6, start reading at verse nine. It lists a bunch of behaviors that we won't find in heaven but points out that we were changed once we accepted Christ as our Savior. It's your choice as to the type of person you want to be.
I will go deeper with this subject as we go forward. but let me encourage you to spend time with your Bible and in prayer.

So feel free to respond to this article however you want. I do ask for everyone's sake, be nice. Keep it polite as you state your views and what you want to say.
