Parent and naming a child

Parents name their children when a child is born. But they are not aware that there are many restrictions in naming their children.

According to a report from CNN a mom had to change the first name of her child which had been “Messiah” into any other name as per the court order of Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew.

Naming a child

Naming a child had been the privilege of the parents. The parents of a child who are recognized by law are allowed to name the child whatever they choose. There are parents who choose unfamiliar names which the society may find uncommon in their society. There are parents who name their child with funny names which the child never likes when he/she grows up. Though naming a child creates many problems, it has been the privilege of parenthood.

Problem of naming in modern society

It faces a lot of difficulties when a child is born to illegal parents, unmarried couples and unknown parents. There are many legal problems with the names of children.

Here is an interesting problem of naming a child. This is an interesting report from religion.blogs.cnn.com about a court order by changing the name of a child. This is a case from the Tennessee county.

Parents of seven months old “Messiah”, his mom Jaleesa Martin Messiah’s and dad Jawaan McCullough, had to approach the court since they are not legally married and could not agree on a last name for their baby. The attention of the judge was shifted from the real problems of the case which was about the last name to the peculiarity of the first name “Messiah”. The people of the locality did not want to call a child by the name “Messiah”
This ended up in Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew ordering the couple to name the first name “Messiah” into some other name.

Order to change the first name

According to the report from Martin to CNN, the judge just came out and said, “I';m going to change his first name,” because she did not like it.

Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew wrote her judgment: “‘Messiah'; is a title that is held only by Jesus Christ and that naming him this ‘places an undue burden on him that as a human being, he cannot fulfill.’"
The ruling of the judge also noted the point that the child was born among in the Tennessee county where there is a large Christian population.

The Modern world is becoming more complicated even with naming children.

I agree. Our name is our identity. It represent all that we are. A lot of thought has to be put as it is a true gift from a parent to his /her child.
