A Question with a Twist

People are born and people die. Many are born a second time to live a supernatural life.

The shield of protection

If Jesus were born and raised in today’s modern world instead of two thousand years ago, would He do any of the following; tell lies, steal, gamble, covet the wealth of others, gossip, slander, be vindictive, tell dirty jokes, have lustful thoughts, be foul mouthed, condemn others, be a gluttonous eater and sit in front of the tv watching and enjoying all of the aforementioned being enacted?

We all know the answer. But there is something else to consider. If Jesus did not come when He did there would not be single person still living today. The nations on this planet would have wiped each other out and if there were only a handful of people left, they would have killed each other in no time as well. Why so?

Well, ever since His presence two thousand years ago there has been something at work in the world providing a shield of protection against such self-annihilation of the human race. That shield of protection is the Holy Spirit. It is true that the Holy Spirit was here prior to the birth of Jesus, but was at work only in certain individuals and in the midst of God’s chosen people, the Israelites. And were it not for the Jews who believed and followed Jesus and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we would not have survived until today.

Many of the same

Now here’s the twist. Every day, in this modern world, someone gets born again for the purpose of developing into and becoming just like Jesus Christ. This means that Jesus was, in fact, born in today’s modern world and many of Him walk this earth today proclaiming the Gospel just like He did two thousand years ago – healing the sick and casting out devils.

However, many (including myself) have been clinging to the things of this corrupt world, not fully emulating the nature of Christ since being born again and guilty of many of the things listed in the opening paragraph. In other words, we have partaken of the salvation through Jesus Christ and have become born again, but have not fully committed to His Lordship over our lives in order to be exactly like Him.
”Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12)

Our only reason for being born again is to become just like Him so that there would be many just like Him as per Romans 8:29. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

Jesus was sent into the world by the Father for the purpose of handing over the work to those who are born again through Him. Those who are born again have now become the “sent” ones. “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” (John 17:18)

The goods but not the giver of the goods

Many Christians today do not have what they need or even want because they have not fully appropriated the Lordship of Jesus Christ and, thus, are half baked in their belief (again, I include myself) and commission in life. “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:7)

Imagine, asking what you will and receiving it because Jesus is the Lord of your life. It should also be borne in mind that all the wealth that is in this world belongs to Him and, therefore, to all who follow Him. If God allows the wicked to prosper, then why should He withhold prosperity from His children? There is a superfluity of promises in the Bible of wealth to God’s children, but this is another subject.

Not everyone is called to be in full time ministry. There is nothing wrong with holding down a good job in this world and earning a living from it, but doing so and letting Jesus be in complete control of your decisions and behaviour in the workplace can and will reap unexpected rewards. It’s a matter of committing yourself to Him in prayer each and every day and having faith that even your words will be prepared by Him in any situation.

Then there are those who are called to be fully occupied in evangelism, in which case Jesus becomes the “employer” and the “paymaster”, not that those who are doing secular work do not also have their employment and income under His control.

Living supernaturally

We need to fully grasp the fact that we died in Him on the Cross and that we rose again in Him to start a born again life that belongs to Him and for Him to do as He pleases with our new life. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Gal 2:20)

If we can understand this and fully submit to it then our words and deeds will take on the words and deeds of the One now living in us and for us, void of the things listed in the opening paragraph – the things that destroy us as Christians and the rest of the fallen world.

Here’s the second twist. Jesus did, in fact, take upon Himself all the things listed in the opening paragraph, but only when He hung and died on the Cross. All those “things” were the things we were guilty of, but He paid the penalty for it in our place. How did He do it? He could not do it unless He drew us onto Himself to become one with Him. And that’s exactly what He did. “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:31,32)

We died in Him – and now we live in Him and for Him.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1John 2:15,16)
