What is The Meaning of Christian Love?
This article is an introduction of what the Bible says about love and how Christian peoples should love each other.
Christian Love is where the Christian shows the kind of love that God shows his people, the kind of love in which the Son of God, Jesus Christ died for the sins of his children, and the Holy Spirit who stays with his people throughout all of their lives. It is also the kind of that Jesus required of those who believe on him.
You should love even those who you are having trouble with and those who you have a grudge against, in fact you should love those people who drive you crazy as much as you love yourself.
Thou shalt not take vengeance nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people; but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am Jehovah. Leviticus 19:18
You should love the stranger, people who are not like yourself, people who are not from where you are from, people who don't dress as you do. Those who are different, this means everyone.
The stranger that sojourneth with you shall be unto you as a home-born among you and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were sojourners in the land of Egypt: I am Jehovah your God. Leviticus 19:34
Additionally, you should not only love everyone but you should also and most importantly love God.
For if you shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Jehovah your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; Deuteronomy 11:22
Most Christians understand the principle of loving God, they understand that through his love all things are possible. The Bible speaks of how much a person should love.
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: Let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified. Psalms 40:16
Many also understand that they should love God with their whole being.
...and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. Mark 12:30
However, it is not just love of God that Christian love speaks of, it is the love of thy neighbor as well, this means all people. Your neighbor could be next door, across the sea, the sinner who is having problems, the sick child, the hungry, the poor, the destitute and the lonely.
The second is this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30
Keep in mind that this also means your enemies, those that would do you harm, those that hate you, those that speak against you, these you should love as you love your neighbors, and yourself.
But love your enemies and do them good, and lend, never despairing; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be sons of the Most High: for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil. Luke 6:35
Remember that Christian love goes beyond simply loving God or even your neighbors, but you must do so as God loves you, be ready to lay down your life for one another as Jesus has done for us, and this mighty love will be rewarded in God's kingdom, this is what the term Christian love means.
And the Bible Says:
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. John 13:34
