Charlie Allen

Charlie is the new evidence in the debate on time limit of abortion in the United Kingdom. This country sets the age limit of 24 weeks for permissibility of abortion. Now, some NGOs called for the lowered limit.

The story of little Charlie is amazing. Charlie was born in week 23 of his mother’s pregnancy (less than 6 months). Now he is a living proof that abortion should be trimmed.

When born, a boy from Norfolk, England, is very small, only as big as his mother’s palm. His weight is about half a kilogram.

Charlie Allen become the only one who was born too prematurely in the United Kingdom nowadays. At birth, the chance of his life only predicted 7 percent. However, Charlie has now grown to be a healthy and cheerful child, like other normal children.

When he was born he was so small and even her mother’s wedding ring could get into his arm. His mother, Emma Allen was not allowed to touch him at that time, for fear of his skin would be torn.

At birth, he could not breath on his own. His days were passed in the tube and he breathed with a ventilator. Emma Allen was sure Charlie could take care of himself.

Charlie was not born alone. He had the twin brother, Jack. However, because his weight was too small, Jack could not survive. Jack died of infection at his 11th day.

At 13 weeks after birth, Charlie suffered gastric perforation caused by drugs he was given to help to close the hole in his heart. He has to go through major surgery to remove blood clots from his wound healing before performing cardiac surgery at the age of 14 weeks to close the channel manually.

Only at the age of 20 weeks, Emma and Bobby, her husband, could draw near Charlie. They may also carry him. At age of five months, he could be taken home with condition, he must only have a very little contact with people other than his family to avoid infectious diseases.

According to the hospital, 91 percent of babies born at 23 weeks cannot survive. Fortunately Charlie is including in the nine percent (that can survive). Charlie survived.
He’s a great little fighter for his mother. Emma Allen, Charlie’s mother is now establish a charity to help babies born prematurely. It is surely a positive activity for society.
