Ten Snares of Satan
We are in a battle. We have to fight vigilantly through day and night. Unless we are on the guard and fight, our enemy will easily overcome us. That is why our life on this earth is called ‘a journey of fight’.
Beware of the Ten Snares of Satan
We should always be on the Guard
Scriptures say that the first man committed sin and lost the ‘Life of Paradise’. Satan, the most “crafty of all the wild creatures” (Genesis 3:1), made man fall into his cunning snare. Satan is always chasing after man in his never ending pursuit of capturing through his cunning devises. Unless we recognize Satan’s snares and protect ourselves from being caught, we will easily be the victims. Hence we must not hesitate to attack the enemy at the entrance itself, lest we fall in his snares.
Here are the ten snares of Satan
1) Satan is always tempting us with dubious deception
Satan is after us without any rest. He never rests and is always trying to trick us into the odoriferous bog of sin and so we should always be alert. He is tempting us always to the evil ways inducing our minds with crafty shows as he tempted the first woman Eve. Her mind or thoughts are captured, corrupted, disillusioned and misled by Satan. Once the mind is misled, it is much easier to corrupt the person and it is a consequence of the mind-disillusionment by dubious deception.
2) He will make us lie to the Holy Spirit (Acts. 5:3)
One sin leads to another. It forms a chain of sins. If we analyze the nature and destructive power of a particular sin, we can see the continuous nature of sins. If we look at the first sin of the world, we will discover many factors that are common to both. The first sin was the cause for other sins; it made the first parents of humanity hide their realities and tell lies. Our human history is a repetition of the old story in new form.
3) Satan’s easy snare of sexual injustice
He will lay the net of sexual injustice. St. Paul write, “Dedicate yourselves to prayer, and then come together again, lest you fall into Satan’s trap by lack of self-control” (1 Corinthians 7:5)
4) He creates stumbling blocks in the path of good actions
Satan will be a stumbling block in the path of good actions. We may plan to do so many good things. But Satan will create stumbling blocks and cause failures and dejectedness. “For we have wanted to visit you, and I, Paul, more than once; but Satan prevented us. (1 Thessalonians 2:18)
5) Satan sows seeds of poison and weeds
He sows the seeds of weeds so that good things may not yield good results.”The field is the world; the good seed are the people of the Kingdom; the weeds are those who follow the evil one.” (Matthew 13:38)
6) He puts a lot of hindrances
Satan will unleash a series of troubles on the path towards the Kingdom of God. “Don’t be afraid of what will happen to you. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you and there will be ten days of trials” (Revelation 2: 10)
7) Satan is on the run to destroy the believers
He tries to destroy the believers. That is what Peter advises the Christians in his letter. “Be sober and alert because your enemy the devil prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.”(1 Peter 5:8)
8) He tempts us to doubt
Satan tempts us with the doubtful eyes. Doubt makes us deviate from God and to proceed in our own way. This makes us distrust the divine power. /that is what happened with our first parents. (Genesis 3: 1-5)
9) Satan makes us deviate from the virtuous path
“The serpent that seduced Eve with cunning could also corrupt your minds and divert you from the Christian sincerity.”(2 Corinthians 11: 3)
10) Satan assails our physical body
As we see in the story of Job, Satan assails our body in so many ways. He makes us worry unnecessarily and lose our tempers. (Mark 9: 18)
