Society was formed under an agreement would need a hold of morality that must be executed in a common life among members of the public. Consensus will be the rules of morality that will be done with a guide for all members of the community in conducting the various activities of life together. Rules of morality are embodied in the form of values and norms of society.

In this article, I try to go back on the sense of values and norms in society, in order to see the importance of the existence of such values and norms is to create an orderly society.

In everyday life human interaction is guided by the values and constrained by norms of social life. Norms and values at first birth was not accidental, because human needs as social beings and must interact with the other demands a guideline, guidelines that over time these norms are made consciously.

The formulation of norms and values according to the figures are basically the same. Writers on this occasion will formulate the notion of social norms and values as follows:

"Social value is an act or acts which are considered good by society. Social value in every society is not always the same, because the value of a particular community can be considered good but not good in other people. "

The value can be divided into three sections, namely :
1. Material values, it means all things useful to humans.
2. Vital value, meaning that everything that is useful for human beings to be able to perform the activity or activities.
3. Spiritual value, it means all things that are useful for man's spiritual

Spiritual values is divided into four kinds:
1. truth values / beliefs which is the value derived from the human mind
2. value of beauty that is the value derived from the element of human feeling (feeling or aesthetic)
3. moral value / goodness that is the value derived from elements of the will / will (intention, ethics)
4. relegius value is the value that comes from faith or confidence man, who is the spiritual needs of high value and absolute.

Function of Social Value

In general, social values have the following functions:
* The value function as driving directions
* Serves as a unifying value that can gather people in a unitary or a particular group or community.
* Social value function as an oversight by the press and certain fastener
* The value function as a fortress of protection
* Value serves as a driving force or motivator

Differences of Social Norms in Social Values

Social value is a living guide which contains prohibitions and commands.
What distinguishes the values and norms is the value of a good thing, desired, aspired to and overlooked by society. While social norms are rules or guidelines, rules of behavior to realize the wishes and aspirations are, or, that value is a pattern to be achieved, while the norm is taken as a reference guide by value.

Functions of Social Norms in Society

The function of social norms in society in general as follows:
1. Norma is a factor in the behavior of certain groups which allows one to determine beforehand how the actions will be judged others.
2. Norms are rules, guidelines, or instructions to live with the punishment to encourage people, groups and communities to achieve and realize social values.
3. Norms are the rules that grow and live in a society and as a binder and controlling the human element in community life.
